GLK N00B
Hey Guys,
Just picked up my GLK today, and havent had the time to read the manual yet. But i had a quick question. Everytime i start the truck, it automatically starts in 'C' comfort mode rather than 'S' sport mode (which is what i want), wonder if i have to adjust a setting?
any help please!
thanks

I wonder if you changed it before starting the car if it might stay in it then?
However, nevertheless, during the first 1500 miles you are suppose to keep it in C mode for whatever reason and also vary your speed (ie don't stick it on 70 MPH cruise for an extended length of time).

Newer models default to C everytime, can't do anything about it. Older models stay in whatever you pick C or S.

I played with this the other day. My GLK, purchased March 2009, does stay in whatever mode I select.
I thought maybe it only remembered the mode for the 4 hours before the current trip counters are reset but it was still in 'S' mode the next morning.

The updated the firmware which forces the car to start in C everytime. As NYC as mentioned this has been discussed numerous times. It is what it is, no way around it.

I'm glad my two Mercs let me keep it in Sport. What a pain to change it every time you start your car.
Yes, you could need the sport out on the highway, get out of something's way, etc.

Sounds like the "Head Mechanic" needs to read the owners manual
I wonder if you develop engine problems if the head mechanic will cover you with Mercedes. Maybe MB will cut you some slack when you tell them that the head mechanic told you to drive that way.
Keep in mind, the car's computer records how you drive.
I think it would probably be in your best interest to follow the break in procedure.
But hey, it's your money

the head mechanic must be bored and wants to work alot? i left mine in "c" for the first 1000 miles and now is always in "s". i have a older glk, so it stays in "s". honestly i couldn't tell a difference on the expressway. only at low speeds driving around the city.

of course there is a limiter, it can only do 130. All german cars have limiters ususally at 150. except for low volume performance cars (porsche, ferrari etc.). Some cars like glk are limited to 130. Computer will remember, but you don't have to drive hard from day 1 for it do that, and it can always be reset and relearn.
P.S. Hope your insurance company is not reading your posts hahaha

Don't beat on your engine during break-in. What your mechanic friend was referring to was that the computer will "learn" how you drive. Drive like an old lady, the computer will adjust shift points etc. If you drive the car hard, it will learn a different way. You can reset the adaptive throttle ...do a forum search......
1. Turn the ignition key to the on (not start) position.
2. Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.
3. Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
4. Wait at least two minutes for ECU to reset. )
and start from scratch...but during car's initial break-in, take it easy.
