Just Installed HID'S

Hey guys, just installed hid lights today, but here's what i need help on.

1. The peanut bulb (part of the DRL) keeps cutting out, and randomly blinks when the engine is off. when the engine is running, it seems to be ok.

2. after 3 hours, my left low beam hid bulb or something just burend out (or stopped working) gives me an error on the dash. any ideas?

Fog's working great...but now this one has me confused.

thanks

My lights did this when I took them to get installed. I called DDM where I got the HID lights from and they said I needed a relay which they did'nt tell me when I first bought the lights. I ordered the relay and have'nt bothered getting the lights reinstalled. As for the DRL bulbs, I got mine from Autolumination and were installed at the same time my HID bulbs. The DRL bulbs are supposed to be plug and play error free, but do not work on my ride. I talked to an MB Master tech friend of mine to see what the problem could be and he said the wireing on an 09 MB and our 2010 vehicles is totally different and the bulbs I ordered won't work. I contacted Autolumination and they said that the bulb should work. So I had those bulbs pulled as well.

Which company did you get the HIDs from? My 35W slim kit from DDM had a ballast go bad after 1 month. They replaced it without question and it's working without error on dash for 2+ months.

FYI - I did not have to buy the additional error code eliminator.

Ok, so far, this is what i have figured out. I went to the guys that did my HID install.
They replaced the Driver side ballast for starters. Then they tried it again..and same problem, the left d/s low beam wont work. Turns out that the only time the HIDs and the DRL peanut bulb runs fine is if the light switch inside the car is turned on all the way to the right. When its in that position, then there's full power going to the bulbs and no problem. It is annoying however, since in the daytime you have your rear lights on as well.

I'm wondering if other people who have installed HIDs have them running with DRL, or without? If i have them in DRL mode, then the peanut bulbs randomly turn off and on, and the HID on the d/s dies out. The fogs are working perfect tho (look amazing).

Wondering if those peanut bulbs with the resistors built-in are supposed to help? and If i was to disable DRL (not supposed to in canada, but i can for $90) will it solve my lighting problem?

any input would be appreciated....

thanks

I am not sure about Canadian models, but in the US, we can turn DRL off from the steering wheel menu.

If the I turn the DRL on, my low beam HIDs still turns on, but they are very dim due to the lowered current. I believe it's very hard on the ballast to run them without full current and they may not ignite properly sometimes.

I would not recommend running DRL with the HID kits.

I didnt buy them seperate, instead, the place where i got them installed had them instock. I paid 400 for the fog lights @6K, low beams @ 6K and 2 peanut bulbs for the DRL. Left the hi-beams alone. The fogs work great, but the low beams with DRL dont work well, unless u have full lights on. So if i get the DRL turned off, i should be ok?

You need the error cancelors for the HIDs. I went through this exact same scenario. I got new ballasts, new bulbs, then finally cancelors. DDM sells them reasonable cheap.

Ok, so here is a new update after days of running around. The stock GLK with halogen's gives the bulbs 6V of power and when you turn on your lights...or at night...gives it the full 12V. So the problem is, when i have daytime running lights, the HID's arent getting enough power to them to keep them going. The soultion?

Well so far i've figured out...either keep the lights running in full..on purpose. Or, try to get the DRL's turned off; which is quiet a challenge here in Canada (since they have to be ON, by law) I've spoken to a couple of electronic speicality shops and they want almost $300 to turn them off.

Benzo, i dont think getting those error eliminators will fix my ballast problem. I did however order new LED peanut bulbs from iJDMTOY which have resistors builtin. Will let you guys know when i get them if they solve that 1 problem.

As for the regular HIDs, still wondering if anyone else has any ideas out there?

thanks

I personally run with my lights always on, day or night...in the farthest right position with the fogs on and the parking lamps(DRLs) on too. Everything but the rear fog light.
I feel its safer all the time and when the wife drives the car, it is one less "gadget" she won't mess up.

LOL. I dont mind either, just hate having extra interior/exterior lights on too...when they're not needed.
