Hello All,

I am 2 weeks away from getting my car and I am getting jittery after talking to a fellow worker.

I ordered COMAND Navigation option without the Sirrius radio. I am expecting a 7 in screen with this option.

A colleague is telling me you only get the 7 inch screen if you order the satellite radio. Otherwise you get the smaller 5 in. screen.

Is this true?

Actually You are both correct in different ways.

1) COMAND with NAV includes the 7 inch screen.

2) You have to order SIRIUS to order the COMAND pkg here in the US, I didnt know you could order it alone in Canada.

 

Actually, COMAND without the full Multi-Media Package is an available individual option in the US as well.

 

Not according to the Mercedes web site or my dealer. I wanted the COMAND without the Satellite radio, but there aren't any. If you build your car on the web site it automatically adds satellite when you select COMAND. I really wanted the Multi-media package, but you can only get that with the P1 package and I can't stand the sunroof.

 

Dont we all hate when a colleague, sales person, etc has wrong info... Love the fact acurate information can be found easily --- Forums!!!

 

I already have made one mistake because during the test drive I asked the sales guy about live traffic on the NAVI and he said "yes you get it, and even showed me". But did not state tat I needed to get the Sirius option. So I didnt get it and now no live traffic, no big deal.

But the 7in screen is a must, and I am glad to these forums. \

I am one week away from getting my car. I have been waiting for months now.

How long will your wait be?
Mine has arrived faster than anticipated. We ordered at the end of January and will be picking it up later this week, so it'll be roughly a 2 month wait from the factory to my garage.

 

I wouldn't feel that bad about not getting live traffic in TO. It only shows major highway traffic for the DVP, 400, 401 and QEW. That's it.

As for the screen size, 7" is what you'll get but remember that while size does help, there's more to it than just that

 

I purchased a GLK350 with COMAND and without the MM package in Dec of 2009 in Atlanta, GA. The Sirius radio is included with any configuration that has the COMAND system w/ 7" screen.

It is still configurable in this way on the mbusa.com vehicle configurator. The COMAND upgrade is on the Step 3: Options page labeled "COMAND system with HD navigation and real-time SIRIUS(R) Traffic" for $1950 includes:
- COMAND system (includes the in-dash PCMCIA memory card reader for playing mp3's through the system).
- 7 inch display
- 6 disc CD/DVD changer
- 6GB hard drive with Music Register
- Enhanced Voice Control
- Gracenote(R) Media Database

The MM package is $3350 (1400$ more) and includes the above COMAND upgrade and only additionally adds:
- Rear view camera
- harman/kardon LOGIC7 sound system

They are both a good deal, but if you dont care about the backup cam and think the stock audio is fine, there is no reason to pay 1400$ more. Find a dealer that has one in this config, or place your own order.

FYI the dealer description of the COMAND PKG IS:

At first, in Atlanta and on vacation in Orlando, I thought the live traffic info was great then I realized it is frequently very out of date information. Usually we would be afraid of a jam due to the red cars lining the road, only to find it was moving smoothly while we were there, only to see the red car icons dissapear after we passed the area. In other cases we are on a road showing no traffic problems, we get stuck in a LONG jam, then suddenly the map shows there is traffic after we are stuck.

Maybe it works better in LA. Anyone else have this mediocre experience with it?

At this point I pull up a bookmarked link to http://www.georgia-navigator.com/maps/atlanta on my Palm Pre phone and get far more accurate information in the car. I will be letting Sirius expire when it is up.

I stand corrected. There are no 512-COMAND equipped models in the US that do not either have the Premium 1 Package or the 536-Sirius stand alone feature. It was a bit decieiving when the Sirius wasn't included as part of the 512 option.

 

I just purchased a GLK 350 with Comand APS Navigation System. On the Route Mode I can avoid "Highways, Toll Roads, Tunnels, Ferries, and AutoTrains" But their are some options above these like Dynamic, Dynamic (when asked for) etc! I don't know the definition of these and don't know what a AutoTrain is!!!Can I get some help the Dealership is of no use. If I havn't sent this correctly please correct it for me.
