2010 vs 2011 GLK
#26
Some cars used injection directly into the individual runner of the manifold, which was a much better setup in general.
The move to direct injection into the combustion chambers is an even better solution, and is now being seen in more and more cars.
Direct injection seems to be more often seen in diesels than petrol engines.
I believe the GLK is getting direct injection only on the diesel engines.

Direct Injection is what it says direct injections into the chamber.
First application on MB came out in 1954 on 300SL. Any toyota from 90's has direct injection. What newer cars have now is different variations of direct injection, because the way you spray gas into the chamber makes a difference when it's burnt.

Actually, direct injection dates to either the late 1910s or early 20s, IIRC, which is what I meant about it being around for a while.
You are right about it coming into wide usage in the 90s. The history I gave was more on general injection across a wide variety of marques. There are still some car companies that are not using it on all engines, so I thought a bit of history might help clarify.
No offense meant.

Yep.
Of all the AMG parts other than the LEDs, I like the regular options better. e.g.- I like the "regular" option/accessory diffuser better than the AMG rear bumper assembly. .
(Ignoring the issue I have with calling it a diffuser since I doubt you would see any effect in the wind tunnel.)

![Question](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
My warranty expires in about 300 miles. Should I pay the $4900 for the extended warranty on my car (that i bought brand new in 2008).
Dealer says they will accept my trade AS-IS and ship me a GLK 350 4MATIC for $43,000. Should I just purchase the extended warranty package to ensure peace of mind or should i take advantage of the 3.99% APR they are offering (current APR 5.0%) for 72 months and trade up. PLEASE HELP HELP HELP. I cannot decide!!

Looks great!
At $1900 the AMG package is a steal.
Compare to the 2010: We got our 2010 with the optional aero kit (about $1700), split spoke wheels (about $750 each, IIRC), fog light trim rings (IIRC $170?), chrome strip for the front bumper (maybe around $150?). I know that is not really the same thing, but in terms of appearance this list is somewhat the same parts.
Ours already had the optional appearance package ($970) that got us 20" tires that could be transferred to the new wheels which saved us some money. Otherwise those tires would have been around $230 each. (I did sell the original optional wheels on eBay and recouped most of the appearance package cost.)
Aside: The appearance package is itself also a great value if you look at the cost of the tires ($230 each) and wheels (about $650 each), and not sure if you can buy the aluminum roof rails separately, but all that for $970. I really like the wheels that come with it, and given the price of the split spoke ones I might have chosen to just stay with the ones that came with the appearance package next time.
And ours does not have the LEDs. Without any clue of what that really costs, I would guess anywhere from $500 - 1,000 but could be more.
So add all that up and the AMG package is great value at $1900.
Congrats on the new car!
