US: What Does Service A Cost & What Is Done
I have a 2010 that is about a year old with a little over 5,000 miles & Service A light came on.
Can anyone tell me approx how much it costs at an MB dealership and what they do.
Also do they automatically check for any recall items or do I need to ask.
And is tire rotation done as part of Service A?
Thanks.

Sorry but I don't have my manual at hand & was curious if prices varied.
I did do a search for Service A before posting and about 50 posts came up with all different subject lines that I really don't have time to read through.
I don't understand why some forum members are always so rude.

Service A should consist of the following:
Engine - Oil and Filter Change
Check catch, safety catch and hinges on engine hood for proper operation
Reset maintenance service indicator in instrument cluster
Check thickness of brake pads, front and rear
Correct tire inflation pressure
Check the following fluid levels, correct if necessary
If there is a loss of fluid, determine cause a perform repair with separate work order
Check coolant level
Brake system
Power steering
Windshield washer system
Recommended Service Work
Replace wiper blades
Electrical system checks
Horn, high beam flasher, hazard warning flasher, turn signals
Warning/indicator lamps, illumination and interior lighting / exterior lighting
Check trunk / cargo area lighting
Battery (main / starter / auxiliary) check condition using "Midtronics MCR 717" tester
Visual and functional checks
Check windshield washer and headlamp cleaning system
Tire check
Tire rotation (where applicable)
Inspect tires for damage, measure tread depth
Activate Tire Pressure Monitoring System
Chasis check
Visually check brake system components, lines, hoses, calipers
Check thickness of brake pads and disks, front an rear wheels removed
Well.......thats what the manual calls for. See some of the other threads about the cost of oil changes vs. the service you get at MB. By the way the 1st tire rotation at 5K should be free at the dealership. If I were you I'd bring the car in for the free tire rotation and get the oil changed else ware, unless you see the value of the service.

They quoted me around $280 for Service A. He also recommended some fuel additive for extra $. I declined both and just did the oil change for $110. Most of the work was just a "visual" inspection. Didn't see the value considering I only had 8k miles on the car. He compared it to going to the doctors for a physical checkup.

Can you ask for just the oil change & will they turn off the Service A light?
We have our 2004 E320 in the dealership right now and will be about $2K poorer when we pick it up Monday after Service, Front Brake Pads & Rotors, Engine & Transmission Mount and Alignment - hear me choking now
Thanks.

Yes they will, just need to ask. If they don't here is the procedure on how to reset the vehicle service reminder.

My Svc A in Germany was 110€ ($140) and I supplied the oil.
Note: That price was after the VAT (19%) was subtracted off the bill since I'm a US servicemember.
