Downshifting by tapping gas pedal

So seems that if you tap the gas pedal twice (light taps) it downshifts a gear to raise rpms in case you about to floor it or doing engine breaking.

Although the feature works why would you want to use your gas pedal to down shift and then step again on the pedal to speed up. That's what the gear shift is for. Or step on the pedal so slow down that all makes sense to me

Had to have my GLK in S to do this. C didn't.

However it's just as easy to press the gas peddle to the bottom and press the button to downshift.

the manual says you have to floor it to downshift,it also says manually changing gears only limits gears it doesnt allow for full manual control

manual shifting is way too slow, it's made for limiting gears as mentioned above not really manual shifting, although it comes handy.

This feature is somewhat useful when rolling in traffic and getting ready to accelerate before actually flooring it.

And yes I only tried in S mode.

Car and Driver reviewed a euro car with manual control of the transmission, its a shame we can't have full manual control in the usa

it is a shame we can't have a lot of things in USA in terms of cars...but one thing is that US has cheapest cars prolly in the world. I bet GLK in US costs less than in Germany.

it does and one of the reasons is we dont have a VAT.....yet..... If you compare prices you can see how VAT can be an economy crusher, the dollar is weak against the euro now, im certainly not complaining about the price of German cars in America, were getting a good deal compared to rest of world. However I wonder if the transmission change could be made with adding a module or some kind of reprogramming...wishful thinking

Our gas has always been vastly cheaper, too.

USA! USA! USA!
