Keyless go unlock & lock door when wash car

Last night I was washing the GLK when and each time I hose down the doors handle area the car lock and unlock itself. I have to place my key farther away so it doesn't lock and unlock it self when I wash the car.

Does this happen to anyone or is my door so sensitive that the ground signal from my body is being transfer thru the water and into the handle area?

I have the same issue! My fix is to take the button out of the dash for regular key access. This disables the keyless go function.

why would you be carrying your key anyways when you are washing your car? i don't have anything in my pockets when i was because i don't want anything getting wet.

The doors are supposed to lock & unlock when they get wet?

Why on earth would that be?

No of course not when it gets wet, it locks and unlocks when u wash the car. Isn't that what this thread is about??

The lock/unlocking "button" is pressure sensitive, so when the high pressure water hits it, it will lock and unlock..

Yes, it's about washing the car but nobody made the distinction between water and pressure on the door handles.

Does make sense, though; thanks!

(from the manual)
You could unlock the vehicle by mistake if
the distance between the KEYLESS-GO key
and the vehicle is less than 3 ft (1 m) and:
- an exterior door handle is hit by a water
jet
or
- you clean an exterior door handle.

also, I just had a 2012 GLK loaner while my CLK was in the shop, and it had keyless entry with the start/stop button removed, so I don't think removal disables the locks.

I had the same problem, all I do now is set my key ontop of the coin box, proceed with washing my GLK, and then grab it before I go. I cannot forget my key as the car will not start without it, no more problem!

What happens if you toss the key in the cup holder?

It will lock the doors too.

but you'll be able to open the doors because the key is still in range.

Strange. The doors won't lock in the normal finger touch manner if the key is inside the car and I am outside.

if you ask me the keyless go feature of the GLK and maybe all of mercedes benz is just a wrong application on the technology. I have keyless go (different version) on my nissan murano before and there is a button you press besides the door handle and it will open the door (i think other manufacturers has the same). This makes unwanted and accidental opening of the doors when the key is in range. Also, the rubber cap for the keyhole is just wrong. Why don't they just leave a hole in the side like what other car manufacturers do and if you want to use the key just stick it in rather than removing the rubber thingy and inserting the key. They just gave you another thing to worry about when you remove the rubber from the keyhole as now you have to make sure not to misplace it or else no more push start function and a very expensive trip to the dealer to replace a rubber cap. That is why I never considered the keyless go when I bought my GLK. I also found out that the touch feature is a hit and miss thing as when I got a loaner car with the keyless go I almost yanked the door handle because it has a lag.

BTW...do you guys know if the rubber thing has a sensor on it? I tried inserthing my finger and pushing it down with the key inside the car and it didn't start the engine.

I don't know what you're talking about. We have it. Love it. Starting the car is the last thing on the list of reasons to like Keyless Go. The remote control tailgate is near the top of the list of things to like. I have no idea where the rubber covered thing is that you mention.
Keyless Go ROCKS!

You're correct Wayne.

The doors won't lock if you leave the key in the cup holder.
I've tried a this a few months ago, and it did lock the car. (The key's battery must be on it's way out).

I tried again today and it did not lock the car. The message on the display said it detected the key's inside the car and it won't lock the doors.
I've just changed the battery on the remote last week, probably that's why it works like the way it is now.

I am too love this Keyless Go feature.

yes...it happens to me on my E...not the GLK since it doesn't have keyless go.

i guess i shouldn't have the key in my pocket with washing the E.

No offense but some of you have too much time on your hands. The thread is about water hitting the keyless sensor....yes it will activate the system. Who cares if the car unlocks if you are close. Is someone going to break in while you're standing there. Don't leave your keys in the car. Don't worry about "what if I lose the rubber cover". Keyless go is a great system that has some quirks like anything else....something constructive please.

...not at all! The thread has now been hijacked 3 different ways. The thread is locking and unlocking when washing not about putting keys into coin box or cup holders nor if rubber caps should be in key holes nor if you have a remote tailgate....and then I hijacked it with this.

It's nothing to do with pressure as the lightest touch unlocks the door on my GLC Coupe with Keyless go. When cleaning the car and I spray it with a fine mist with no pressure it unlocks and locks continuously.

Mine does the exact same thing. Somewhat annoying until the car started itself and took off. Luckily it had GPS and about an hour later showed up at home.
