Near as I can fathom from the manual there is no way to have the engine running at night without having some exterior lights tuned on, such as being at a drive-in movie and you want the A/C on. Sounds kind of silly.

I guess no one else knows how to turn all the lights off either. If that's true it's kind of a dumb design.
Just watched their video and there is no OFF position. Another better idea from MB ?

Not sure what you mean. The 12 o'clock position on the headlight switch is off. If your headlights are on in this position then you have your car set to have the "Daytime Running Lights" on. You can through the buttons on the steering wheel turn them off. On the left side of the wheel use the left and right arrow buttons to get to the settings menu, push the OK button then use the up and down arrows to get to lights menu, go to Day Time Running lights and disable them and then push OK. If this is not what your problem is then you will have to be more specific.

Thanks but you missed two words in the original post, "At Night." The twelve o'clock poition on mine is A, Automatic, and as long as it's dark and the engine is running the lights are on. This is a 2011 vehicle.

Is there not an off position on your vehicle? If there is, what outside lights are on with the lights in the off position?

No OFF position. Full right=on normally. Next to the left=A, automatic all normal running lights go on at dark, next is parking, license, dash, then the two silly "standing" lights, one side at a time. There is probably a way to disable the A position and use that as OFF but that's stupid to have to do that in order to do something as basic as turning all the lights off.
What is the second position from the right, 12 o'clock, on the 2010's?
Another disappointment I just discovered is that there is no tinting on the front door widows or windshield. The back windows are tinted. Driving with the sun on my left gets my left arm very hot. I didn't know any cars were made today without some tinting.
The fun of owning a Mercedes is starting to wear off.

The 2010 GLK exterior lamp switch positions are shown on page (number!) 87 of the - manual: http://www.mbusa.com/vcm/MB/DigitalA...l/2010_glk.pdf,
and on page 102 for comparison of the 2011 - positions: http://www.mbusa.com/vcm/MB/DigitalA...l/2011_glk.pdf.
The "0" - Off - position "is gone" on the 2011 GLK. I am afraid there is no way you can "disable the A position and use that as OFF", nor provide an OFF-function of the headlamps when engine is running, by the Instrument Cluster.

Smacks of excess bean-counterism. See how many nickels and dimes we can save building a car that sells in excess of $40,000. Even German engineering gets comprimised by the almighty

The exterior lamp switch of our GLK has as well the "0" - Off – position, however programmed by MB to command the headlamps on when engine is running. In compliance with National Traffic Administration requirement for Day Time Running lights (DRL).

To those suggesting I'm talking about Daytime Running Lights please reread my original and third posts. "AT NIGHT" when the automatic headlight feature(?) prevents turning off all the lights with the engine running.
