Need some advice on pricing
I am in the market for a new glk350 RWD and I have the following quotes from dealers:
Dealership 1:
Vehicle 1: 2011 with P1, Multimedia, Sports Appearance and Heated front seats
$38,584 and 1.9% APR
Vehicle 2: 2012 with P1, Multimedia, Sports Appearance and heated front seats
$40,584 and he doesnt know what kind of financing he can offer yet
Dealership 2:
Vehicle 3: 2012 with P1 and Multimedia
$39,127
All these are quotes I have gotten just by email/phone negotiations. I am planning on going down to the dealership close to my house where I had a good experience test driving a few cars today. In my opinion, for 2k it doesnt make sense to get the 2011 since when you sell the car the model year matters. Do you guys think that I could negotiate a 39,500 price for Vehicle 1 or does that sound like a completely unreasonable number?

Best tactic is to get them off guard. Walk in with the magic number written on a piece of paper in your shirt pocket. Listen to their sales talk... smile... laugh at their stupid jokes... go for a test drive.... let them start going over numbers... another words wear them down... let them start getting frustrated and at the right moment pull that little piece of paper from your shirt pocket and say...."I really enjoyed our little talk... but THIS IS the magic number.... yes or no?"
Be willing to walk if they balk. Good luck!

You're in SoCal do you need heated seats? The appearance package is nice if you want 20" wheels. You need to build the vehicle you want on KBB.com or some other site. They will give you the tools you need to be an educated consumer. Then work your own magic like MBR said. Lots of luck

On the other hand you can get way more than 2k off on 2011 model if you wait till Nov/Dec. There are usually crazy deals when dealers start clearing out inventory.

When does warranty start ticking? I believe it's from the manufacturing date, so your 2011 might be out of warranty a year earlier.

Yup! Starts the first day you bought the brand new car.
I am sure you can get 1.9% for 36 month or 2.99% 60 months. It's standard!
And I am sure you can get your car down to 39500, and tell them you want to finance the car. Dealer loves that, 'cuz they make money off financing too.

Thanks for all your input. I wasnt too keen on the heated front seats either, however I guess with this car being so new and dealers having limited vehicles, it just happened to be on the car which had the other things I wanted.
As for waiting, we are actually a one car household right now and are expecting a baby early October, so waiting till Dec is just not an option.
the MSRP of the car we built with the following options:
(070) Chrome Door Handle Inserts (Set of 4)
(320) Multimedia Package
(322) Appearance Package
(731) Burl Walnut Wood Trim
(866) Pre-Wiring for Rear Seat Entertainment System
(873) Heated Front Seats
(917) PZEV Emissions
(P01) Premium 1 Package
MSRP: $44,955
Factory Invoice (according to truecar): $41,998
Best quote I have gotten so far is $40,000
