Very very slow
I haven't seen glkwalker lurking around here for a while, maybe he moves on.
Anyway, there are more than FAKRA connectors back there but the GREEN one is the one you should go after.
Since you have the command unit out, which is a big progress, check all the functions to make sure everything is working correctly.
Next, unplug the green FAKRA connector and plug-in the camera and try to see if it works. IF it does (and it should), then go back and check all the functions on the command unit again just to make sure everything is working as before you unplug the green FAKRA connector.

2015 GLK350

Hi guys, wondering if any of you have tried installing a rearview camera on the 2015 GLK350? I volunteered myself to see if I can help install one on my girlfriends. Not sure if it's all going to be the same as the older models. It does have command/nav and at a quick try at the system menu, it looked totally different than the pictures in this thread.

Any input is great!

VERY simple answer to this.

Your car is pre-wired for camera. Just no camera installed. You can use a OEM camera and use the OEM cables or just unplug the green fakra and use aftermerket cables. Simple as that. NEVER have to worry about taking the conector out. Just for camera.

Exactly the same thing all the way. Just that the info on the menus is in different places since you have the new 4.7 Comand.

I have no clue where they hide it. Should have been in the trunk door you think. But maybe it just goes to where they have the module for this feature.

My wife is getting a used 2015 GLK350 and she has to have the backup camera. It has the non-nav radio but is prewired for the Becker Map Pilot if that makes any difference. Does the non-nav radio have the FAKRA connector in the back or do I have to get one of those $300 modules to interface with the factory screen?

I read on another post that the cable that is already connected to the Fakra camera connector goes to the glove box to be used for an aux camera if you want to. So you should be fine just disconnecting it and connecting to your new camera. Seems that if this is true though, you should be able to connect to the camera port inside the glove box and you would not have to remove the head unit at all.

I've just installed the backup camera for my GLK.

Below are some of the pictures, which i took from my blackberry, which is not the greatest.

The back of my car, camera installed just above the license plate.

Picture taken from inside my garage.

Picture taken in a parking lot.

Picture taken at night (it was raining at the time too).

Hopefully an extra eye will help!
It was a great exercise, i know a bit more about my car.

Would I do it again???? DEFINITELY

I just replaced the camera installed 2012 with the one below, however I will not recommend it as the quality is not good when its dark.

Did you ever figure it out what that connection was for and did disconnecting it cause any issue?

I bought the camera on eBay from a Chinese merchant ( can't remember now).
While it said "CCD lense" but I doubt it would be but for around $25 I can't really complain much.
Just search "Glk350 back up camera" on eBay and you'll see a lot of them comes up.
Look for wide angle ones, like bop11 suggested above.
Most of them comes with a plastic mounting bracket and it maybe a bit loose. Just use a little of automotive silicone to glue it in place. I used a product called "GOOP" and it works really well.

Back up Camera for 2012 GLK with nav. already

would anyone in the NY/NJ area be able to install my back up cam. on my 2012 GLK 350. It has navigation already, and the option to turn on back up cam on R.
so not sure if I can just by the camera and have it installed.

I like Emerald Mobile Integrations products. so I could buy the camera from there.

of course I'd be willing to pay someone with the right expertise..

thanks all..

So I have an appointment to have the OEM camera installed.. I have the Navigation from factory and have the option to put the Car in R and screen switches to camera mode with the lines and all but no image.. hopefully the GLK is pre-wired to just have the OEM camera installed.. from what the installer says.. they have done many of these.. so I will keep my fingers crossed.. will let you guys know what the end result is..
Bought the OEM camera from a seller whose GLK was totaled due to front impact.. camera has clips and everything.. mint condition..

Camera Info Please

Bop11,
On the camera you installed, did you use a relay to signal with the reverse light, or because of the Command Module programming did that negate the need for that extra circut?

So it was just 12V PWR & GND and the RCA line?

Thanks,
Riesling

No relay. The camera is always on with the ignition, just the software in the navigation selects that input when the vehicle is in reverse. This is set up through the setup screen for the Nav and then the Engineering menus.
