Is that 198 miles around town? Stop and go? Any highway? Mileage from the GLK is not good. I can get 300 miles, probably a bit more, on the highway. The only reason I don't know what the highway range is because i have only driven a 250 mile trip. Twice.
You do know the car's trip computer gives you a couple trip MPG numbers? Bottom line: 20mpg, plus or minus a few.

ITS MIXED DRIVING... SHE DRIVES TO SCHOOL AND BACK THEN SOMETIMES ON HIGHWAY....I HAVE AN 2011 AUDI Q5 AND I GET ABOUT 350-375 MIXED DRIVING...BOTTOM LINE I THINK 198 IS HORRIBLE GAS MILEAGE...I WAS COMPLETELY SHOCKED...TIRE ARE BRAND NEW..ALIGNMENT HAS BEEN DONE PROPER INFLATION SERVICE UP TO DATE

I get about 20 mpg around town, not too bad considering it's not light, it's got a 3.5 and it has the aerodynamics of a brick.

If you want good mileage, get a Prius...

There are a few variables. The tank needs to be at the same level each time. Miles have to be recorded accurately. In writing in a notebook. I would keep good records for 5 fill ups. See what happens then.

You don't need a Prius. Since 1999 & 2003 I have averaged 28mpg and 25mpg in normal automobiles.

The GLK has excellent electronics use the MPG from Start or by tank to see what you get. It's never off by than .5 MPG. I get between 19.5 worst to about 23 MPG and I'm not easy on the car.

His 2019 RAM Cummins Turbo Diesel Laramie; Her's 2007 ML320 CDI P3; Mine BMW R1200R
Drove a loaner 2011 GLK 4matic for a month the same way I drive my ML 320 CDI. GLK averaged 21-22MPG, or about 350 miles per tank. (A little city lots of highway drive, 15 gal fill up) For the same trip, my diesel ML will give 27-29MPG, or 650 per tank. (26 Gal fill). My wife's 2001 E320 4matic wagon gives her 350 per tank with a 15 gal fill. (City drive rush hour both ways) When I use her wagon, I average 23-24 MPG, so a touch better than the GLK, but the wagon is aerodynamic and not a boxy SUV.
Seems like the 2012 GLK I ordered for her should give her the similar mileage as her E wagon when it gets here early Feb.

It's gonna be a long 6 weeks.

Very very slow
Gas mileage on the GLK has never been good, but I think it's just about average.
You have to consider it's has a big 3.5 liter engine with 4-matic , which does not help with gas mileage. I am getting about 400KM per tank for mixed driving.
The car's computer averaged about 11.5L/100KM for the last 11,000KM.
I wish it could be better, but on the other hand, it's still better than my AWD Sienna.

GLK350 4matic
My GLK 4Matic doesn't get much worse gas mileage that my Honda CRV LX 2WD. The Honda only has a 2.4 Liter 4 in it. The problem with the Honda is - at interstate speeds of 70 or over, it's fuel economy drops badly, and, it has to downshift and scream its guts out to climb even a modest grade.

Chitown - one other thing. I've run into several gas stations around here selling 87 octane gas as premium gas. I had 3 Jaguars before the GLK, and, they got crummy fuel economy when I tanked up at several local stations. Try filling your GLK up with 93 from a different filling station and see if its mileage improves.

It's interesting when you mention CRV.
My co-worker, he had a Honda Element, has worst fuel economy than his 2011 Maxima which average about 11L/100KM.
Go figure

Even more disconcerting - the car I traded in for the GLK was a 2006 Jaguar S-Type VDP with the 4.2 V8 in it. My CRV gets worse gas mileage than it did, by far.

'12 GLK 350
350miles per tank on mine 15gal fill up, if I drive 8 days highway at cruise 65mph, with maybe 50miles of that city. It's just about the same as my old '09 Nissan Xterra but GLK is bad with city driving 200miles per tank at least, if my wife drives it to work that's 6 miles away and 6 miles back, for the next 8 days or less maybe.

350 is alright with me.

There's a lot to be said for an understressed engine...

first time to drive the glk on a two hour ride on the highway and I got 8.5/100km on winter tires and travelling a constant 100-110km per hour in the city I am getting 13-13.5/100km all using 91 octane

My interpretation on the two letters:
E mode = foot as light as a feather
S mode = lead foot

I don't even bother with that button on the shifter, I just press the left paddle shifter twice and mash the gas pedal if I want the GLK to overtake a porsche 911 LOL!

Gas difference , Answer is yes!

Considering the 911 is probably being driven by some old fart that shouldn't be too much trouble...

Cool

MPGs according to the built in electronics. Dec. 23 to Dec. 31, 2011. A good all round mix of average driving conditions. Highways from 55 mph to 70 mph. City driving. Mountain twisty bits. Flat. This is about as good as it will get for a mixed driving average.
