BMW 135i, GLK350 4matic
New member / new to MB
Hello all,
I am new to the site and to MB. My wife and I just purchased a 2012 Glk350 4matic. Artic White / black, p1, command, heated seats. I have owned many cars but no Mercedes until now. So far I have a few minor issues but we love the car and the way it drives. I've been searching for wind noise issues and today I noticed another noise. That is not wind noise but sounds like a slight whirling / high pitch sound that changes pitch with acceleration.
Looking forward to the MB experience.

Welcome!
I have the oposite problem with our 2012 GLK 4matic: too quiet. Lulls me to sleep. I sugest you take your Service Advisor for a ride noting the sounds that concern you. Hopefully they can be corrected. What tires do you have? Perhaps they are making some of the noises? A shot in the dark since we can't hear the sounds.
Enjoy.

Congrats on your purchase! Driving a Mercedes you will hear alot of noise, since we tend to drive faster than normal. lol But check what tires you are runing. It will help.

Good call on the tires wayne....it is surprising how much tires impact overall ride quality and noise.
In general, I would recommend taking it back to the dealer ASAP to have it looked at. My 2012 new GLK does not have any of these issues you speak of. I had a similar issue when I purchased a new VW GTI back in 2009. There was a annoying rattling above the passenger seat belt strap..I waited too long and when I took it back to the dealer, they said the first year is when manufacturers covers all 'minor squeaks and rattles,' after that the owner is responsible for outside costs not associated with warranty. So best to deal with it now!

Noises
Thanks all for the input.
Unfortunately, the noises are either the (apparently) infamous a/c rudder issue or a bad seal on a window / sunroof. The other whining noise that increases with acceleration, I'm not sure...
I've searched and found others with identical issues. Again, the A/C rudder is fairly common but not necessarily easy to fix (even by the dealer) and the other remains unsolved from what I can tell reading.
Either way, let the adventure begin. Overall, I really like the car a lot.

I wish our GLK had some kind of wake up device. Up to 70mph it's like a tomb. Once in awhile I mash on the throttle. The engine, exhaust & Co-Pilot noise wakes me up.

To Josh and Kajnbabe 1st. Post some pix so we can see your new rides

I've had my GLK for 3 years and although I had some life left in my tires I was not sure that I would make it through the winter. I bought new Pirelli's to replace my old ones and Tada!!! no more noise. Might be worth looking to see if the wear markers are getting close.

I just re-read the OP twice. Josua has a 2012. Surely the wear. Bars aren't showing. Might be the Dunlops or Contis. What size rims and brand tires do you have? The cabin air intake problem is the first place I would have my dealer look at. Not sure about the acceleration related whirring. Do you have 4matic? Get a service tech with you in the car and repeat the sounds. We can't help much from a distance. Except to reaffirm that our GLK is silent.

Hope it's not a similar to the noise someone mentioned they heard on a test drive in Orlando with a 2012. That would suck. Wonder what tires are on these? So far Pirelli equipped cars are reported silent.

Interesting. We went the other way. After 12+ years with a beautiful dark metallic blue, we felt it was time for a change. We both had requirements that meant placing an order. The wait was brutal. The results were well worth it.
Have fun!

I think this is the E class forum for your particualr model. I'm sure the folks there can help. If it's not the correct E forum, there are other E foums that will be correct.

That is interesting, lol. I was tormented trying to decide and finally got the lunar blue. The Palladium and the pkges was really great, but I went witht the upgraded seats. On the blue they are very light grey and the Palladium was black and it was so dark inside it was killing me and the Bi-Xenon on the blue is fabulous!! Oh, and the lunar blue also has the faint whirling sound when I activated the a/c recirculation knob. So it must be something that the GLK does. Dunno! I came from the Chrysler 300C w/Hemi, loved and miss it.

I get to drive our GLK this weekend. I'm making a mental check list of odd whirlings, whirrings, grunts, groans and hummings to listen for. Grinning. Stay tuned.
ps: Ash grey & Palladium is perfect. We like it. Glad you like it too.

2012 GLK350 Artic White/Premium Package/MultiMedia Package/AMG Styling Package
My wife choose a 2012 GLK350 over a host of other cars and SUVs we looked at (including the ML350 and E350) so I bought it for her in the beginning of December. To date it has 106 miles on the odometer and I haven't driven it yet. She drives her Explorer to the store, if rain's likely, when pollen is in the air, etc. It looks great in the garage though and I may not have to wash it this year.

You have to take her out more often, she looks good either clean or dirty! I was the same way when I got my new 2012 GLK, but then I realized it was meant to be driven.....enjoy!

I have the same issue with our 2012 GLK350. Have you had the chance to have this looked at by the dealership? I'm planning to have this looked at during the A service.
