fuel door

I was cleaning the car yesterday and I noticed that the fuel door is poking out on the bottom and not flush with the body panel. It is flaring outwards that you can grab the bottom and yank out the fuel door (I didnt pull it out). It is -5C here in Vancouver and I am thinking the plastic door might be warping because of the temp. but I am not too sure about that regarding plastics. Can you guys look at yours and see if it does the same? I know there will be a tolerance for panels not being 100% flush together but this is just not acceptable because the way it sticks out.

The fuel filler flap flush perfectly here in -5°C, and -10°C as well.

Just went to the dealer and I was told to try heating it up with a hand drier and bent it down and if that won't work they will replace it. What do you think about that response? BS to me.

The risk of causing harm to the paint or/and the material by the heat is obviously there. I would leave it - if it isn't a warranty claim(?).

The car is not yet 1 year old so it will be a warranty claim. Just can't believe a shop forman will tell me to do that and not them doing it. Anyway I complained already to CS and they told me they will talked to the shop forman and repair it, if not, get it replaced. The GLK on the showroom doesn't have a fuel door like mine and just saw one GLK parked on the street and has the same thing but not as prominent like mine so I have a feeling it is defect on some GLKs.

The door is made of a polyurethane blend and will warp if exposed to high heat... (think, was it ever parked outdoors facing the hot sun in the summer, parked near a hot water pipe or system in a basement parking garage at work, etc?) Have the dealer replace it under warranty.... just hope the color matches! Good luck!

The car is always parked inside a garage and if it did gets exposed on summer heat I do not think it should warp like that. Dealer will be repairing it or replace it next week after I rant on the shopforman comment and I do hope they don't screw-up with the paint or anything on the car. I do hope they won't heat it up and bend it and next thing you know you'll see a fine line where the flap is glued on the black plastic retainer.

Make sure they repaint the inside of the filler cap and replace the stickers.

Maybe getting gasoline on it causes it? Very odd! Keep us posted.

I just went through the exact same ordeal....it has been a real cold snap up here (-27 deg c) but the other day while filling up, I noticed the bottom part of my fuel door was not fitting correctly too

Took it into the dealer this morning, they are going to replace the whole fuel door. I always worry about the painting, will it match factory? GLK only has 1600 km on it so no fading in the paint yet

I think everyone should be looking at their fuel doors and monitor any warping on it and get it fixed before the warranty runs out. I do hope it won't happen again after it gets fixed.
