Has anyone tried to retrofit the OEM LED DRL's yet?

Has anyone tried to retrofit the OEM DRL's from the lighting/AMG styling package to a 2010 or other car that didn't come with them? I've read the existing threads on DRL's that I could find, but haven't found any posts by anyone who has actually tried this (although a few people have apparently messed around with aftermarket DRL's). It seems to me that the parts (lights and mesh surround) would work because the bumpers are the same, but the question is whether the existing wiring and switch would work properly.

Do you know the part number for the led lights as well as the black mesh? These are the same led's as the AMG GLK's, right?

Also, do you have them wired to the fogs or somewhere else?

Thanks for the info. If these lights are not the AMG GLK LED's, then which MB model are they from? Wouldn't it have been easier (for installation purposes) to use the AMG GLK LED's?

Email sent.

I do like the newer DRL frame that extends the entire width of the lower panels on the other Mercs & what Rob/ynavsoy posted.

Agreed. The only thing I don't like about the AMG package ones is the housing kind of sits there in the middle of the mesh with mesh on both sides; these that come all the way across the mesh look a lot cleaner.

What MBZ are these actually for anyway, if they're not the GLK OEM ones? And how did you handle the wiring? I think the foglight switch on the '10 is integrated into the rotary headlight switch, and I'm not sure that will work in the daytime. I was thinking they might need to be just wired into a wire that's hot anytime the car is on, which would be ok as then they'd be on with or without the headlights.

The Lighting Package includes full width LEDs. I still wish they would ADD the LEDs above the real fog lights instead of deleting the fog lights.

2012 GLK with Lighting Package. The big version. Don't freak about the color temperature of the LEDs. It's a digital photo thing. They are white.

Wow, so the LED's in the lighting package are different from the ones in the AMG styling package. That's strange. Ynavsoy, how did you handle the wiring?

I had forgotten about this. Seems like it was 'marketing' ($) else it would have made too much sense to include the same DRL for all packages.

ON MY LIST OF PARTS THERES THE TWO PLUGS AND CONNECTORS. I JUST CUT THE HARNESS AND USED THE LED CONECTORS.
IT STILL LOOKS OE ASIDE FROM THE RESISTORS I HAD TO PUT INLINE.
IF YOU DONT WANT TO USE RESISTORS JUST GET SOMEONE TO CODE THE FRONT SAM TO THE LED STANDARDS.

Wow, I just noticed this! I have a 2012 GLK with the AMG package (standard in Canada) and the LED DRL's are different, very odd that MB would do this....Mind you the front fascia is slightly different as well with the AMG package, a little larger air intake on he bottom accented with chrome.

Another beef. What's up with the empty aluminum strip? There is room for 3 or 4 or 5 more LEDs on there. Then maybe folks would actually be able to see them. I really don't get it.

So I don't think I quite understand. Do you have these wired as DRL's (like stock 2012 GLK's with the lighting package) and they stay on during the day and fade at night?

OR do you have them connected to the fog lights and turn them on manually?

I would like to know this as well. The 2010's don't have a separate fog light switch; you have to turn the headlights on and then pull the rotary knob out to turn on the fogs, so if you wired it into the fog light wiring you couldn't turn the DRL's on unless you also turned the headlights on. I figured you'd have to just wire them into a hot wire so that they would on all the time, at least on a 2010.

I turn them on manually when I want them on thru the fog light switch.

What would you recommend from a wiring standpoint for those with 2010's (you can't turn on the fogs without turning on the headlights first)?

Yes, I would like to know this as well. So you need to have your headlights on to turn on the LED's? Even during the day?

You can turn your fog lights on even though your headlight isn't. But what's on instead are your day time running lights.

driving lights

Looking at parts diagram it appears the actual led light bar is the same on both AMG and standard lighting package - the difference is the bezel or carrier for the lights and that is why they don't go all the way across the bar on the standard front end. both have the same 6 lamp light just put into different bezels depending on package.
