False alarm.
Warm, sunny day, no breeze, the car is on the lawn outside my windows, no one within 200 feet and the damn alarm goes off and the horn starts beeping. It stopped by itself and I unlocked/relocked the door remotely and everything seems normal. Is this going to be one of those intermittent mystery things no one can find or fix?

Are you sure that nobody is playing around with your car's remote?
It happened to me once.... my 3 years old son pushed the panic button.

I'll try batteries but they're only six months old and I don't use the car very much. Apparently from what it says in the manual the charge indicator light on the remote does not warn of a battery getting low, only that it's dead which is kind of useless since then the remote will not work at all which should be a clue.

Sounds like a beautiful day. The GLK is trying to tell you that you should take it out and play.
Swapping batteries is cheap and easy. Leave one in the GLK in case you need it some day. If that doesn't work, I'm clueless. Never had a false alarm since forever.

I doubt that it is the battery. There is a remote get it remote chance that someone in the neighborhood has a device that is scanning for codes and hit yours. It is a possibility remote as it might seem. Didn't mean to be punny.

I thought of that, or someone's new garage door opener that's real close in frequency. Do these use the 2.4gHz band that most everything does today?

watch out as someone might be trying to scan the codes as what MkenM is saying but I doubt that they can steal the car without actually having the keys (do they???) - knock on wood, as that specifically happened to me on my other car. BTW...do you have the push button start feature on your ride?

No, but turning the "key" does the same thing I believe. It's obviously not a direct connection to the starter solenoid like the "old" days. This is a rural area and my parking is right next to the house and well lit. Also have two dogs and everybody around here has guns. Of course criminals aren't known for their mental abilities.
I have seen where people sit in big parking lots and have scanners that steal a remote code when the owner uses it.

well hopefully it is just a one time thing but who knows as cars now a days have so much electronics on them it is hard to tell when they will act up.
