Not an Apple shortcoming - a MB shortcoming. vCard is an ancient standard which should not be used anymore. Other brands have "moved on" long time ago (I can easily transfer my address book from my iPhone to my 2009 BMW without doing anything "extra", just a matter of a single setting in an iPhone), MB should've done that too.Originally Posted by venchka

It is a short coming of Apple's when they can't even get their BT to work amongst all their own products. Originally Posted by Car drvr

Just check out the Apple Community forums about this issue. Lots of thread about it.
& yes, it is an Apple issue when a nearly defunct Blackberry & a thriving Android platform can send vcards contacts over to the GLK MMI no problems via BT.
So, Apple better realize the world doesn't revolve around their standards all the time & that they better work with their business partners to get the stuff tight.

It doesn't take much for car manufacturers to implement PBAP bluetooth profile into the car (which is NOT an Apple's standard - it's universal). Most of the car manufacturers did it long time ago, same goes for some portable GPS manufacturers (my Garmin device with a Bluetooth connection can easily "pull" my phonebook from my iPhone), however with Mercedes it (as usual) takes a long time for a modern STANDARDS to appear in their cars, and the implementation of these standards is highly inconsistent (for example, 2010 E-class supports PBAP contact transfer, but not GLK-class). Is such inconsistency also an "Apple issue"??? Originally Posted by MBNA109

It is when Apple routinely can't get their stuff to play nicely with any1 else or themselves for that matter.
Try explaining to all the Mac users who can't connect to their iPods/iPads/iPhone via BT.
How is it that Apple apparently "moved on" but yet Android & Blackberry can still get the stuff transferred easily?
My contacts pulled easily from my wife's iPhone cause I had an Android.
It takes 2 to communicate. Apple routinely refuses to acknowledge this basic philosophy.

The day we took delivery of our GLK, the nice lady from Mercedes-Benz of Tyler uploaded all of the contacts from our 2 BlackBerry phones in under a minute. Anything else is a defect on the phone end.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

What does it have to do with phone book transfer to a car? When I used to sync my iPhone with my MacBook Pro using Bluetooth - everything that I wanted to do worked perfectly for me. I don't know why other people couldn't do it - maybe they were dumb, maybe there was some kind of hardware defect with their devices. There's no good reason to use Bluetooth for this (synching personal data between iPad/iPhone/iPod and Mac/PC) anymore if the devices support iCloud and have built-in WiFi. Exactly. Other car manufacturers "caught on" long time ago, MB should've also done it faster and in more consistent way (why is that 2010 E-class models had support for PBAP profile and could transfer phone book from iPhones BUT 2010 GLK models could not? Is than an Apple fault?).Originally Posted by MBNA109

I'm just glad I don't own an apple product.

I have the same problem in my C350. Picked up a new Nokia Lumia 900 Windows Phone. Everything works except transferring contacts.

So it is not just Apple only then.
I honestly think MB is way too slow when it comes to technology.

It's not android. Biggest mobile platform. Android.

My previous phone, Xperia X10, Android, did not have the issue. It had lots of other issues but synching with the car was not one.Originally Posted by MBNA109

Hmmmmmmmmmmm.............
BlackBerry is the oldest platform in this discussion. Possibly predating Bluetooth.
Android in the newest platform.
No problems with either.
Apple and Windows can't seem to get things right in this case.
Grinning. Go figure. Windows emulating Apple?????????????

Ok, not sure what I did or what happened, but, knock on wood, my contacts transferred. They were just there without any action on my part, I think. And my text messages are read as well.Originally Posted by venchka

You know, I can play this Google Search "game" too, simply by substituting the name of iPhone or Apple with whatever name of smartphone brand/company/OS that I have developed irrational hatred for... Except, unlike you, I don't (have any irrational hatred towards smartphone company), especially for devices I don't own. Also, you don't even read my previous posts in their entirety, why do you even bother replying, then? As I said before, I have PERSONALLY used Bluetooth on my iPhone for for various functions, EVERYTHING (but a particular MB model) worked perfectly with it, from Apple's own products (like my MacBook Pro) to any other 3rd-party product, including different cars by different brand, portable GPS systems, non-Apple tablet devices and stuff like home cordless phone systems, all of which I personally own and use very often. As for other people, I've already said it in my previous post:Originally Posted by MBNA109

but I guess it's easier for you just ignore completely whatever I've said and keep bothering with pointless links about products that you "glad" you "don't own"...I don't know why other people couldn't do it - maybe they were dumb, maybe there was some kind of hardware defect with their devices.

And apparently you ignore all the problems that infects your little world.
Like I said it's your problem & your complex.
Fact is fact. Don't let it smack you in the face too much & make you dumb & blind.
