For the Tire Width: How Wide Can I Go?

For the Tire Width: How Wide Can I Go?

The Appearance Package Rim is about 8.5 inches wide 20 inch in diameter. So what is the widest width possible can one go on the GLK?

Generally, ideal tire width for a 8.5" rim is 235 - or 245 millimeters. The minimum tire width is 225 and maximum is 255.

How Wide Can you Go? Depends on space available when running 20" tires. Rear should be OK, as GLK by MB can be delivered with staggered 20" 235/255 front/rear - that is however with 9.5" (rear) rims.

Btw: Staggered 19" 235/255 is by MB spec. on 8.5" rim.

245 will give you a slight - very slight - odometer error.
But I'm going up to 245 next tire change.

Use this to figure out what you can go to (make sure java is turned on):

GLKKA2H I have a 255 on front and back right now. But I'm thinking of getting wider rims... perhaps 9.5 inch and with 265 or 275 tires. I really want it wider. I kinda had a feeling that you would know the answer. BTW, I like the input you've been sharing in this forum. It seems like you are very knowledgeable Thank you.

Added: GLKKA2H So it sounds like I don't need to get "9.5 rims" if I can change it from 255 to 265 using my 20s with 8.5 inch, please correct me if I'm wrong.
So now my two main questions are.... would a 265 front and rear fit just fine and if so (since you mentioned 255 is maximum) what problems will I encounter if there are any?

ble2716, it's not wide enough =)

MBNA109... here's a picture of it. it's on my flickr account, just click on the link. The link you provided was awesome and useful. Thank you as well.

Nice. What did you go up from? 19's or 20's?

Looks like 235 to 255 35 20 causes the odometer to be 4.7% off.

MBNA Mathematically or chart wise, there might be a slight difference. But I don't feel it when I'm driving.

I still have both the 19's and the 20's. And yes from the 19's to 20's

Added: I just learned of "plasti-dip" might try that on the 19s, if or when I have the time =).

Okay - just as long as you are aware.
My own personal comfort level is +-2%.

But to each his own.

Really?

How is that?

It's an increase in width, not diameter...

A/R, Tire-Size etc... Just be careful of your roll radius with 4Matic cars. They need to be the same as OEM or the computer will go insane.

Base on this calculation, is it safe to say, odometer wise, I will have less miles due to the bigger radius.
