GLK 350 2010
Folding mirrors, is DIY real?
I live in Canada and sometimes I see 2010-2011 GLK parked, they usually have their side mirrors folded in. Mine, 2010 GLK, doesn't have folding mirrors feature. I know that some Canadian GLKs have that feature by default, but not mine.
So I am just curious how hard/easy would it be for an average engineer like me to install folding mirrors feature on my GLK? Is there anyone at the forum who did that? What parts, motors will I need to buy? Please, share your experience

I contacted Steve http://www.mbenznl.nl/index.php about doing a folding mirror retrofit...he had installed a command on my CLK...great work! He said that it would be rediculouly expensive to install. He said that the wiring is not in the door or in the harness for the US model. He said he could do it but it would be around $1K to do! I can live w/o them folding.

I wonder if the folding mirrors was part of an upgrade pkg you didnt get. My wifes 2010 GLK has folding mirrors but this 2012 GLK loaner with absolutely no options on it does not have folding mirrors.

You need replacement mirror frames (approx $800) and the window switch (approx $200) and then reprogramming of your instrument cluster to add code 500 (one hour labor).
You'll have to disassemble the mirrors and remove the door panels. Doable with minimal tools and know-how.

Personally, I have not seen a GLK that does not have folding mirrors yet.

I have folding mirrors on my 2012 canadian glk..it does not do it automatically..but i have a button to fold them in.
I am happy its not automated..my 2008 C350 had squeeky mirrors for the entire 4 years I leased the car. I had the mirrors replaced 3 times as well.

I have this setting for the first 2 1/2 years and then the motor worn out and have to replace both mirrors. At this time, I have disabled this feature and only fold them manually when I needed.

I have a 2012 GLK as well, by default the mirrors will not close automatically. When I took possession, my salesperson walked me through setting it up. Simply go on your instrumention cluster and into settings, pretty easy to locate and switch over
