I take a lot of road trips and needed more storage so installed the under the front seat storage bins today. I thought I would have to remove seats to attach them with rivets but instead used socket head screws and screwed right into the existing seat frame holes. I had enough access but had to enlarge the two bottom holes in the bin slightly. Overall a pretty easy job and took less than an hour. They are standard equipment on all the 2012 GLK's sold in Canada.

These are not huge but do provide a good place for smaller things like sun glasses case, flashlight, maps, collapsible umbrella etc. Holes are already there in the seat and are factory installed with rivets but I couldn't get enough clearance to fit a rivet gun under the seat so used screws.

hey how much did the parts department charged you for those sets (in canadian funds please)? did you just used screws from Home Depot or Rona? what is the exact size that you used? thanks!

Is anyone aware of how to *remove* these? My wife and I absolutely hate them. They make the seats squeak and they take up leg room.

I'd be more than happy to give them to a fellow GLK owner if we can safely remove them. I wasn't sure as they do look riveted in place.

There's 4 screws at the very back, two going up that are a ***** to get to, and two that are visible when you open the compartment and look in the back up high.

There's no way they can cause the seat to squeak. They are attached to the seat frame below the seat. In my color they did not provide them and it was not an option when I ordered mine. I've since ordered and installed. I sure would have taken your kind offer had you posted a couple of months ago. With a discount I paid $300 for mine. Easy to install and easy to remove, they were just not available in Palomino. I bought black and you can't even see them, but they sure provide the space for little miscellaneous things. A very worthwhile addition which I would have ordered had it been a factory option at the time. Had them in my E class as standard equipment and I really liked them.

Thanks for your reply. The reason they make the seats squeak is that the outside edge of each seat tends to rub against the top corner of the storage box. I think I can fix this with a bit of felt or something - but it still doesn't fix my lack of leg room

Spray some silicone spray on the place of contact. Or, better, loosen the 4 screws and slide the units inboard a bit. Still not sure how they contact as mine don't, but the spray should take care of the squeak. Or wipe some Armor-all at the contact point.

I'll definitely see if I can adjust them first, but it looked like the two rivets from the factory might prevent them from being moved forward or back.

I'm actually surprised my 2013 doesn't come with storage bins. koalatm, if you decide you don't want them, can I take them off your hands? I'm back in Canada in a few months.

If I can find a safe way to remove them! But it looks like they're permanently riveted in place.

That's strange because the parts book definitely shows screws, and in fact with that part number I was able to buy them locally after I bought the bins, which came in from Germany.

If they are indeed riveted, I'm certain that would have to be before the seats are installed as two or the screws, or rivets, would be vertical and there would be no way to drill them out without removing the seats. Yet it would be quite strange for the parts books to show screws instead of rivets.

You can find the parts number there somewhere. They gave me excellent service and I'd use them again in a heartbeat. Guy called and pointed out my car didn't have them to start and wanted to verify color. "I know!" He wanted to make sure I got what I wanted. I think the part number is in there somewhere. It changes for color. I ordered black to make it less visible. I carry something there I don't want folks to look at or be able to obviously see. In black in my car they're practically invisible.

I am looking at fitting the Passenger Side ONLY - do you see any issues with that being ONE SIDE only? would it look odd?

In black the bin is very much hidden. I never see them. They are not very deep and no, they won't fit a laptop. Haven't measured but I'd guess something less than 5" wide is max. Have no clue as to size of iPad as I don't have one.

No such thing as permanently riveted; all you need is an air hammer with a chisel...

A small punch, smaller than the rivet diameter, and a big hammer will also do!

There isn't! Seats have to come out whether drilling or punching!

Air hammer and chisel will shear off the rivet head from the side; no need to remove the seats...

I have a B-Model 200 from 2013, and I have just received 2 storage bins, 2 hold rails and some 12 fitting screws.

Can somebody tell me how to remove the seats, and do I need to make extra care to cables to the seat for 'air-bags' ?

A direction to some hints, Pictures or exploded drawings is very much appreciated.

You need to remove the negative terminal from the battery first before unplugging any of the harness below the seat. You do not want to trigger a airbag malfunction which you can only remove by going to a dealer. There are 4 bolts holding the seat, one at each corner, use a correct torq socket to remove the bolts.
