I live in an apartment with no underground parking. Unfortunately right now it's monsoon season here (raining almost everyday) and I'm getting quite paranoid. I have a 2010 and just replaced the very-rusted lug nuts; Mercedes replaced them for free.

Is there a risk of leaving my white GLK out in the rain all the time like this? My previous car was black and I left it out all year last year when it rained everyday for at least 3 weeks straight and there were no visible problems.

Anyone with a white GLK that is experiencing rust issues, other than the lug nuts?

It rains a lot here in the northwest coast.
Best suggestion is to keep everything waxed, detail sprayed....including the alloy wheels and lug nuts.

I am also have a 2010 White GLK and there is no sign of rust anywhere except the wheel nuts.

There should be no problems by leaving your GLK out in the monsoon rain. Just remember the importance of using the air condition - not at least for drying the cabin air.

At the end of the monsoon season: Check that water hasn't penetrated into the PVC-layer of the windshield, at the "bottom". The attached pictures are from our GLK, left - and right sides, before (warranty) replacement of the windshield. There are three more reports regarding the issue, on a thread of a German GLK forum, all vehicles built between Spring / Fall 2009 (i.e MY 2010).

And you may as well check the floor mats, to ensure that moisture/water has not made its way into the cabin.

Good Tip^^^^^ Use your Heat/AC (alternate) to keep the system dry. There have been many reports of fungus growth creating a stale stench in our GLK's.


Also, I found that the lug nuts keep rusting, no matter how many times they are replaced. They're not coated with zinc paint any longer. So I simply bought a set of these. Problem solved.



Or take them off and use this to cover and protect the lug-bolt heads from rusting. (Zinc Coating) Less expensive.

Rusted lug nuts are not caused by rain water, they are caused by driving your car through automatic/hand car washes!! The acidic cleaners ruin the lug bolts and this is not covered under warranty! Be thankful to your dealer that they replaced them for free. I had the same problem on my GL350, then the dealer told me it was those horrible car washes I was taking it to, and offered to pay only labor to replace them.
