Brake Hold for 2013 GLK
I just got the new 2013, and I was curious if anyone else is having the same issue. I cant seem to activate the brake hold. The manual says when at a complete stop to apply the brakes and the "hold" light should pop up on the dash, but I cant seem to get it to work. I seem to remember it working on the car I test drove. Any advice?
Thanks
Next time you stop, immediately after stopping, push HARD. Then you'll figure out how much pressure it takes and won't have to press as hard.
rmfnla- just a nice thing to have. Is it a necessity, not really.. Is it cool to show off when passengers are in the car..absolutely.

With hold, at a long light, train, etc., you press and engage 'hold', and the engine stays off until you press on the gas.
You don't want to put it in park, because the engine starts.
It's also useful at the Starbucks drive-thru, engage hold and get your money out of your pocket, instead of putting it in park.
I imagine the engine starting in "Park" or when the seatbelt is disengaged, is to remind you that the the car is on, so you don't get out and walk away without shutting it off.

I drive my 2012 GLk pretty gently the vast majority of the time, including braking. On the driveway, I just gently apply the brakes as the garage door is going up, then release and the car just sits there. However, I don't think it will just sit there forever. I've purposefully removed my foot from the brake pedal, but did not touch the throttle to see what would happen. The "hold" let go after a few seconds. Good enough for me.
The hold feature seems to be working without any conscious effort on my part, even with relaxed braking effort.

The "hold" function sets the brake and holds it indefinitely until either the brake is pressed and released, or the gas pedal is pressed.

Wait, this is in conjunction with an engine shut-off?

Like I've said several time - some like to drive & some like to be driven...
ps: There is a brain dead BMW 328i appliance operator who can thank their lucky stars for the new Michelin tires and brakes on my XC70. Otherwise, they would have about half of my XC70 in their trunk. Where is the grenade launcher behind the fog lights when you need it?

2012 E350 has the Brake Hold function and obviously not the ECO function.
