new 2013 and problem already
Picked up my 2013 a couple weeks ago and it's making a loud groaning sound when doing slow tight turns. Booked an appointment for the 31st and will report back. it's got 300kms on it. lol. let the repair fun begin.
some pics for you guys

the 2013:

Dealer can't duplicate it today (nor could I) because it takes a 20 min hwy drive to get here. They said they'll " recalibrate" the 4matic incase it wasn't done properly on PDI and i'll live with it for now until it gets worse.
Happy New Year!
You should get a better answer than could not replicate. Even if itm eans leaving your car overnight so that it can exhibit the problem. Get it fixed!
They did mention they checked all fluids but the dealership was swampped today and I didn't want to force the issue given the noise can't be duplicated today and they're all off tmr. I'm heading up north to Ski later this week so I prefer having my car cause sometimes the loaners they give out don't have 4matic either.
Will just keep an eye on it. the dealership's a good 30 min away so unless the noise is persistent, i'll let it slide for now.
Anyhow. Happy New Year dcjwlee. Best wishes to you and the family
Took it to the dealership yesterday and they said that its a bad gear in the front transfer case. They have ordered parts and plan to replace tomorrow and i should have the car back tomorrow night.
Ill keep you guys posted, on if it actually fixed the problem.
Not happy to see such issues on a brand new car (especially 3 model years in service).

They said they had another GLK 350 in the other day with the same problem, and they did the same work to fix it.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
Replacement of "the gear" is a new action taken in the transfer case story, which in the past has been (reported) resolved by replacement of the case - along with the automatic transmissision, this in accordance with a Daimler procedure.
It's interesting to note that the dealership so fast identified the culprit. If the "other GLK 350" mentioned as well is a MY 2013, one may wonder if there now has been a modification/design revision of the year 2008 redesigned 4MATIC transfer cases, causing side effects as seen.
Those who lives shall see if these two (or three) cases just are coincidences.
Good luck to both of you
Don't really have time to bring it in as I just had my first year service but it was documented from when I first bought the car so hopefully if anything comes up they'll look back at the service records.
the last time I brought it in, I couldn't duplicate the noise and it went away until now as the dealer is a 15 minute highway drive. I might just need to take the car on the highway for a bit again I guess, lol
As far as I know there is only one transfer case and that is at the back side of the tranny and part of the transmission. If he said 'FRONT" he must be referring to the front diff which, I believe, is actually in side the oil pan on GLKs. Since there was an engine change between 2012 and 2013, there may have been some changes to the gear set in the oil pan or a modification to the setup procedure. It would make much more sense that the 'gear change' could be accomplished in one day if it were the front diff because only the front axles would need to be disconnected and the oil pan dropped rather than removal of the whole transmission. Also highway driving would warm and thin the oil so it may transmit a lot less noise.
My 06 W203 W4M had the same issue at around 60k Km. i.e. The groaning on slow turns and eventually got worse to the point where the transfer case was actually binding with the power train juddering during slow turns.
Dealer was well aware as I recall back then there was a TSB out on this issue. They flushed the transfer case oil first but issue came back in less than a month so they replaced the whole transfer case later on.
It's unfortunate to see even the newer generation 4MATIC is still prone to this same problem. Good thing is that based on the dealer's experience most of the cars with the faulty units would exhibit problems well whit in warranty unless they were very low mileage cars. If by about 80k you haven't got a problem, it's safe to assume you won't need to worry about a faulty transfer case later.
