20" or 19"

Am buying my 17 yo a GLK for graduation. Have ordered what I want. Dealer talked me out of 20"

Any thoughts re: safety of 19" vs 20". Will get all-season and dealer will put whatever tire I want on it.

More thoughts on safety than cost

If it is a young driver I would say 19"s are what you'd want to go with. 20"s will be lower profile and less forgiving in certain situations. No need to forgo safety for style since 19"s are already larger than what her/his friends rides probably float on.

and also, if you live in an area where it snows alot in winter time
you should seriously consider getting winter tires because it really does slide alot when turning due to the power distribution of the 4matic system

This is my story and I'm sticking to it:
For safety, versatility, utility, etc., the GLK should be equipped with 17" wheels as standard. The 19" or 20" wheels should be optional. Fashion, not smarts, is driving the wheel selection in the USA.

Say do you know if you can put 17"s on this car? Will they clear the brake housing and rotor? Just wondering when I go looking for a winter tire setup how much smaller I can go. Right now I use 15" steels for my snow tire setup and the car I drive now came with 16" low profile tires. I'm just assuming there is no way I'll be able to get those 15"s on the new GLK.

There are 17" factory original wheels from M-B. Aftermarket 17" wheels are also available. 17" wheels are the winter standard in the Great Frozen Northland. This forum is full of winter wheel/tire information.
Now you know why I said that 17" wheels should be standard equipment.

Yes. I am currently running 17" rims on my GLK.

Mercedes-Benz dealerships actually offer 17" winter tire packages for the GLK

It's paired up for the GLK
