Ok am I crazy? Interested in what you guys have to say about this.
I got a great deal on a 2010 4matic six months ago, and I've decided I'd like to put 17"s on it instead of the 20"s that I have now. I called tire rack and found something I liked (which they guaranteed would fit) but Sears just told me they won't put them on because they won't fit over the rotor. And they said even if they did fit, they'd be too small for my suspension and it would be a safety issue.
Someone is wrong here, I just don't know who. I'll call tire rack tomorrow when they're open. But what do you guys think?

I've had trouble putting aftermarket tires and wheels on a sports car I had, especially when I didn't buy anything from them. Tire Kindom was the only place that would do it.

That's what I told them! They looked at me like I was an idiot and said my suspension wouldn't be able to handle it because it was set up differently, and that European models are totally different than US ones.

Sears is absolutely right in not installing the tires. For a minor labor charge, they are opening themselves to your potential actions if the tires prove to be or cause a problem. Many tire shops today will not replace wheels and tires with anything not OEM. Costco will not even sell you and install non-run-flats to replace run-flats.
Before you replace the tires with a drastic size change, you should contact a dealer for their opinion of the results. This is especially true on an all-wheel drive vehicle.

I believe that Tirerack has list of independent tire/wheel installers that will do the job for you. Check their website.

What about all these guys with 10" wheels on there Scions or Toyota drifters? Or the guys with 33's on there Jeeps. My grandson with the cheater slicks on his '67 'tang? I'm glad this is still the land of the free. But then again I'm from Pennsylvania where we "trust in God and guns".

I am a little late to thread but...in Canada most of the GLK owners have snowtires on 17" rims. I have the 20" summer sport tires and 17" winter tires both on approved Mercedes-Benz Rims. Also, check the driver's side B-pillar tire placard for approved tire sizes and the owner's manual.
