Those of you with GLK 250's...

Does the GLK 250 come pre-installed with a block heater, or was this something you had to specifically ask for. I'm in Canada and where it's going it definitely get a little chilly at times... -30's C...

No block heater pre installed, I never had one on a jetta tdi. I am sure the blue tech will be fine without it

Was at my dealer ordering winter tires and wheels and I asked about a block heater when booking an appointment for the installation (of the winter tires and wheels). After asking sales, parts, and reviewing my GLK250BT's build sheet, my service advisor ended up getting a tech to pull my GLK into the garage to have a look...and he found one. Block Heater cord scheduled to go in with the installation of the winters, so will let you know how that all works out.

BTW, my GLK is a Canadian 2014 model.

pull my GLK into the garage to have a look...and he found one

Yes. the indication is that the actual heater is installed in the block. The cord just needs to be plugged in and routed.

I was told that block heaters are generally installed at the factory as part of the Canadian equipment and the cord just needs to be purchased and installed. Our diesel equipped GLKs are new for the 2013 Canadian winter and this is the first time my dealer looked to see if a block heater was included.

That is good information! fcch WILL need the block heater. I recall nothing starting in Quebec when temperatures were -40 C or F.

There is something else we get in Canada - 1U2 on option list. Snow guard front. Whatever that is ?

We also get 1U3 - vehicle underbody waxing. Does that mean no need to go to Krown or Rust-Check?

What we NEED, is non-spill mats like Weathertec. Dealer says they beat Weathertec's price.

Thanks good info, I have talked with my Sales person and was assured it was installed. The vehicle arrived about a week ago and will pick it up in another 3 weeks (Roughly)

Does GLK250 have a glow plug light on the instrument panel? I have been out of diesels for a while. I had a VW TDI back in 2006 and the light almost turn off instantly when the key is in the on position. One really cold winter it stayed on for about 2 seconds.

Mine has one. Stays on very briefly.

Maybe I better look for one?

I asked that question about the E350 BlueTec initially when I didn't see a glow plug light in it. They told me there were glow plugs, the were fast acting and the light was eliminated. I've never looked for such a light since that time. It could be there in mine, just haven't seen it if it lights briefly.

I thoroughly checked mine. Spent some time turning it off and back on, on two different occasions. Mine DOES NOT have a glow plug warning light.

I've gone through the manual and checked out all the diagrams on the various displays and there is NO display indicating there is a glow plug function or malfunction.

There was not one in my E350 and I doubt seriously there is one on ANY GLK250 either Canadian or USA. If there is one I'd like someone to point it out to me, or better still, take a picture and post it here.

You could be right, it is probably not needed anymore as the fuel is instantly heated at startup. Back in 2006, I was surprised as how quickly the light turns off compared to my buddy's 1984 300D. These vehicles are prior to CDI. The high pressure of the common rail delivery already heats up the fuel prior to injecting reducing the load for the glow plugs during cold starts. I was just curious when I asked the question. I will not be surprised that in the near future, the glow plugs will be eliminated.

Glow Plug Indicator

Mine is on the tachometer, just below the red "BRAKE" and just to the right of the 1. When turning the ignition to position 2, look at the tach for a yellow/orange curly pigtail (coil). If you switch quickly past position two to start (position 3), it may not illuminate. You may have to stop a position 2 to actually see it illuminate for a very short amount of time.

If you have Keyless Go, then I cannot explain how to check.

I know mine cannot be the only one made this way!

Mine has a light and it does not stay on long at all. Page 34 of the manual shows the preglow light for the diesel (#12 on the list).

Mine has it as described above, just below the "BRAKE" indicator and just to the right of the 1. It illuminates (yellow coil) very fast.

Some discussion is here https://mbworld.org/forums/glk-class...n-flats-3.html

Yours isn't the only one. I have it too!!! I had never seen it and couldn't find it therefore the skeptic that I am, I didn't have one!

Also checked my manual. Mine shows it on p. 32.

And it does stay on very briefly. If you don't know exactly where to look, you'll never see it.

Thanks, and my apologies for being such a skeptic, (which I'm sure I'll continue to be!)

Well finally got to see our GLK yesterday and yes the block heater is pre-installed. Pretty slick idea with the quick connect on the outside of the car.

Please elaborate. Where is the quick connect? Could you post a picture of it?
