3M paint protection...

Anyone get it done? is it any good? Does it do as advertised and protect the paint? I'm debating getting it done but would like to know what those of you who have it think of it...

Thanks

Except for logistics for delivering the car and not having it for a day, I'm not debating. I WILL get it done. Everything I have seen, and heard about it is positive. My dealship was touting it in their pre-delivery sales pitch for extras. They wanted $1800 for the complete package, which was way too much. In checking the certified 3M installers in the area, their prices ranged between $600 and $750, the latter being across the street from my dealer. It's hard to even tell there is a protective shell on a car even fairly close to the car.

I think there is a tlhread here on the subject. A 'search' might give a bit more information.

See if you can swing the 'full hood' instead of partial. The clear 'bra' will look obvious depending on the color, dirt and how you clean it

You have to make sure to ask for the edges to be wrapped (and have this written in the contract) otherwise they just use a pre-cut sheet and the edges stop just before the body panel. Only a real skilled installer can use the non-pre-cut sheets to make it completely invisible

I used to be in the camp of having the edges wrapped, but I've changed my tune on this. Wrapping the film makes it very likely that the edges will peel and curl back over time.

I had it done a week ago. Dealer quoted 1400, I had it done at a local body shop for 400 including front of hood, mirrors, and headlights. We had to leave vehicle overnight for full cure. The product looks great, which is to say it doesn't look like anything. Ours is not wrapped as described below--I was worried wrap would get too much grime built up that I couldn't see. Looks great on our palladium gray and can only see the line on the hood at specific angles. There is a lot of gravel on our icy roads here in winter. If mercedes offered a bug guard for GLK I would have done that. This is my first experience with 3M "Ventureshield" but I wouldn't dream of not doing something to minimize chips. So far so good but we will know more after the winter.
