2013 glk250 BT oil change questions
I'm a 2013 glk250 owner and very happy with this car, and I always did oil change for my old corolla and plan to diy for this one too, I know I can use the vacuum from the top method, but the first time 10k change I'd prefer to drain the factory oil completely and start with mobile 1 esp(thank the forum for let me know the right oil to use), have some extra questions though
1) what's the torque spec for the oil filter and drain plug?
2) is there any torque spec for the plastic under pan screw?
3) where can I buy the oil filter wrench and the model no?
4) where can I find the service sheet, is it necessary to buy the the workshop manual from ebay?
thanks for the answers

I don't have the torque specs., but the belly pan is plastic and the screws and clips are metal.
I bought the correct oil filter wrench from ebay, try searching the forum, as I posted it with the ebay item number.
Don't forget to buy the metal washer for the oil plug when you buy the filter kit.

MB225.51 spec question
This will be my first diesel. Is the MB225.51 spec a requirement because of the 10K mile service interval OR a requirement for diesel engines? If I plan to change the oil every 4,000 to 5,000 miles, can I use the same synthetic oil (Mobil 1 or Castrol Syntec) that I’ve used in my gasoline engines for years? Thanks!

Only use the correct spec oil. It has low ash content to not foul your particulate filter. It's true that you cannot damage an engine by changing the oil too frequently (as long as you use the correct fluids and parts.)

I have to recommend changing the oil from the bottom. From the top, I could only pump out about 4-5 L. From the bottom, I drained out 7.5 L.
I do not know the torque spec for the oil filter and drain plug, but I just did hand-tight. No issues so far. The plastic skid plate can be taken off without any torque specs.. just with regular handy tools.
The oil is relatively easy to change. Just take off the skid plate and loose the plug. The oil pours right out. Then change filter up top. And add the amount of oil you got out.
I bought my 74 mm oil wrench from ebay years ago.
A place to look is Harbor Freight Tools. Check online or in stores. They is ALWAYS a 25% off ANY item on their website. Print that out. The store and online sells the Mercedes-fit oil wrench.

For oil spec, check the official Mobil 1 website. They recommend the 0W-40 Synthethic oil. On black friday, they cost $5 per quart at Pepboys. They run normally $6.50 at Walmart. Mobil does not make a 5 quart bottle of 0W-40. It is not an european blend or anything like that, but it is listed on the official Mobile 1 website.
My GLK has a Mobil 1 sticker on it that recommends Mobil 1. So that's the only thing it's been getting. I have had 0 problems.

thanks everyone for the input, I changed the oil at 12/25, it's relatively easy, bought a filter wrench from eaby, esp 5w/40 from amazon(missed the rebate,so it's about $90 for two cases of 6 bottles), filter from ebay tnanks to mike-nc's info, just jack up the car, remove the plastic plate and drain it like every car, I used about 7.5 qrts.
also sent the first 10k factory oil sample to blackstone labs, and the result is ' high wear and silicon in new engines is common, along with potassium, should improve next time', so basically ok and I plan to test again at next change.

You guys in the USA are lucky when it comes to oil. Here in Germany. Most 100% synthetic oils will cost at least 20 Euro per liter some (like mobil 1) are approaching 30 Euro (for the mathematically challenged. That's $27-$40 per freaking liter) Fortunately the shop at Ramstein Air Base has a German made oil (ARAL) in the MB 229.51 spec for $7.50 per liter. But the shop does not carry nor can they order the mobil 1 ESP.

Hmmm, I bought several 5 quart bottles of Mobil 1 Euro Formula 0-40 (229.5 spec) at Walmart for $36 dollars each. Here is the link for the recommended 229.5 oils:

Thanks I found 5-40 Mobil 1 esp put in 6.9 qts like owners Manuel said and isn't at max going to try 7.5 qts as before mentioned. Thanks again for guidance. The oil is dirtier then anything I've seen ( 9111 miles)

No its front wheel only as you know.... Its a great little car and can get 48 MPG on the interstate ....But in the snow its so so ....I cant understand why my Passat V6 front wheel drive was great in the snow.
Until some guy tail gated us....we were at a light and the cop though he may have been going at least 50 mph. Now I have been doing these 13 hr. trips and the VW tdi is not cutting it. I was taking a lot of Advil. Hoping the 250 will take care of this a bit. Much better seating position I think.
