10' GLK Service A 40k

My 2010 GLK is about to reach the 40,000 mile mark and i'm receiving a message that says Service A 600 Miles. I will drive 600 miles in approximately 2-3 weeks. Does anyone know about how much I may have to pay, and what they'll be doing. I'm in Reno, NV if that matters.

Service indicator is wrong - service B + 40K tranny service is due (and don't skip that) - call the dealer and local qualified indie to quote - you call also talk to dealer finance department about cost for 20K/30K prepaid service pack which could save you a bit on the dealer side - however, prepaid pack must be purchased BEFORE you check in for service

20 to 30 thousand seems a lot for service. I think I paid $450 for the service around 40K miles at the local dealer.

Our 2010 had the 40K service last fall at 39K. Transmission service due at 39K not 40K per MB. Total cost was $600.00 which included transmission & brake fluid flush plus the usual oil change & filter.

Wait so the service indicator is supposed to say service b not service a? And how much do you think this will cost I've searched other threads and they say service B at 40k is about 700-1000$

I just had the 40k Service done on my 2011. I had changed the engine air and cabin air filters myself. The dealer did the rest of the "BO" service including oil change, brake fluid change, transmission service, and wiper replacement. They supposedly gave me a 15% discount (had a coupon) and the bill was $962.

Thank you for your informational post! I hope I don't have to pay as much as you did.

Yeah - I know the local dealer is expensive. However, the next closest one is 50 miles away. At least, when they got done with the service, they cleaned the car up, and, delivered it to my house.

That's actually a great price to have all three of those fluids changed @ the same time!

Earlier today I phoned the dealer and the woman told me it'll be $396.00. I asked her what service they would perform and she never said anything about the transmission and I asked her she replied saying it was not needed.

Plus ATF change every 40k

Thanks konigstiger for the original post

That sounds like a B service for that price. The manual says air filter and tranny flush are due at 39k miles. Tranny flush is $400 at my dealer. DIY the air filter (there are videos out there how to do it). Filter and wipers can be ordered online without dealer mark-up, delivered to your home (I use pelican.com). I'm gonna learn to do brake fluid flush, and won't really need to bring the car for much service. I also read that brake job is easy on MB cars when time comes.

I never do the B service. It's basically A service plus they take wheels and look at your brakes, which I do myself when I rotate my tires.

What is this whole transmission service spectrum. I keep reading posts about how the transmission has to be serviced during service b?! The transmission fluid flush or something like that.

Tranny service or tranny flush is it's own thing, just like brake fluid flush, or filter replacement. Service A and B are just an oil change and checking a few things. Service B checks more (i.e. your brakes) than service A.

I know you and I were talking, but just for everyone else that reads this - brakes on the MB ARE easy, and for no reason should anyone pay the ridiculous markup the dealership charges for a brake job. If you want OE brake parts go to a good indy and have them buy them from the dealership using their wholesale account. You'll pay half for the labor and get the same job done.

Brakes don't affect warranty so you won't have to worry about that either.

Brake fluid flush should really be done at the same time as brakes to save labor. 2 years is a bit on the high side if you ask me but I understand people want to keep up the warranty. If I rode down 6,000 ft of elevation every morning I'd probably keep my brake fluid fresh more frequently but on an average street car, brake fluid every brake job or even every other brake job is plenty.

Oh okay.. We'll do you guys recommend me getting the transmission fluid flushed? Everyone says their transmission blows around these miles...

A gaggle of MB's
Let me bring some clarity here - 2010 GLK 40K service

The Mercedes gal you talked to does not know what she is talking about - no excused whatsoever for that.

I have attached the pdf for the 2014/updated-current maintenance book/schedule for the 2010 GLK.

So you don't have to search for it - I have attached attached pages 24-29 which outline the "bible" for the 40K service for all 2010's including GLK

On 2010's I have highlighted that part of recommended service that requires actual work - and YES that actual includes tranny service.

If you "source" your own parts for DIY or independent service from reputable internet sources: fleece Mann/Hengst oil filter $10 (NOT paper), two Mann air filters $26 exact same filters as MB for list $65, Elring Klinger tranny filter $15 exact same filter as MB at $35 list, tranny pan gasket normally recoverable but Erling Klinger gasket only $7 exact same as MB at $16, Mann cabin filter $18 slightly different non-bleached paper color but exact same filter as bleached paper $55 list MB...

For those readers that own other MB's 2000 or newer - web link below allows you to download the current 2014 recommended maintenance schedule for any US MB model since 2000:

So all the highlighted objects in the PDF that you posted is what the dealer is going to do to my car for the whole "Service B" ? Including a transmission fluid flush?

Not necessarily included in the service B, as most users on here can attest to. Transmission service is separate from service B.

Correct me if I am wrong but I believe the original service schedule called for either 100k or 'lifetime' fluid in the transmission, which might explain why the phone jockey said the transmission fluid doesn't need to be done at 40k.

Since then, I believe there has been a correction and the transmission fluid is now called for at 39k (Where they came up with 39 and not 40 is beyond me).

As for the failures, there are many instances of the 722.9 trans failing but I havent seen anything the indicates the fluid is involved in the failure - most are AWD units that have a bearing in the transfer case go bad that I have seen. I admit I have not researched in depth into all of the different 722 failures reported.

I did the trans fluid on my customers car at around 60k.

Many glk tranny failures occurred way before 40k mark from what I came across in the reviews and on this forums.

So I finally had my GLK serviced last Saturday. The service rep told me that in fact it was service "A" and not "B" according to the GLK's past maintenance So they did the service "A" and transmission fluid flush ect… and It all came up to $500.46 it was originally about $580 but I had a 15% off coupon. I believe the vehicle now says Service "B1" 10000 miles, but i'll worry about that once I get there. Thanks everyone for posting.. very helpful
