2010 GLK rusting
I found rust near the rear passenger wheel well and took it in to be check. Shockingly they found several areas of the rear quarter panel had pitting. So, thankfully, under warranty they are going to replace the entire rear quarter panel.
However after hearing that GLK haven't had problems with rusting I had the body shop place look at the entire car and they found another area.
I have 47K on the 2010 GLK and do baby my cars. So surprised and disappointed that there is rust. I've never had a 4 year old car rust.
Anyone else experience rust?
On an aside note, if the car is in for extensive warranty work, does your dealership provide you a loaner car?

MB galvanizes their bodies so rust is pretty uncommon.
I would look into lemon law possibilities.
My dealer gives us a loaner for anything that requires us to leave the car...

So yes - new cars even from MB do rust. Especially when exposed to salt. I am no expert, but I don't believe most Mercedes are galvanized. They may have some galvanized panels, but other areas are protected by an organic coating (paint!). I would love to know to what degree the GLKs are galvanized.
In Canada, it seems loaners are less common, especially at smaller dealers. But if you need one, just ask and see what they say.

Pictures would help.
Mine is almost 5 years old with 47k miles driven all year round in north east. I only hand wash mine and haven't come across any rust. I've seen another post with complaint about pitting in the rear, and I have nothing in that area.
One thing i noticed is that rocker panels were changed by MB. Mine stick out a bit and MB changed them in later years so you don't dirty your pants. I wonder if this causes more rocks to hit the rear panels. Im not sure when this change occurred.
Yes MB loaner for any warranty work or service but not for bodywork.

Our 98 E320 had rust early on it in places known to rust. MBCanada repaired those under the original warranty. Later, after warranty had expired, I noticed some rust on a cross member under the engine. They fixed that for me too under their goodwill program. The B-Class also had a rust issue at the bottom of the doors. MB replaced most of those under warranty.

"Long-term protection: fully galvanised body with tougher paintwork
Long-term corrosion prevention for the bodywork is based on fully galvanised sheet metal panels."
This is for the C Class, but I've heard for several years that all MBs get this treatment.

Mercedes had a bad reputation for corrosion on cars built in late 90s and early 2000's . I am sure they have worked hard at improving that record. But surprisingly, even quite late model cars like the B-Class had a corrosion problem on the doors. And then we have the subject 2010 GLK. Why are these galvanized vehicles rusting?

Sadly I have found 2 more spots of rust on my 2010 GLK. Thinking I got a lemon and not impressed. I've never had rust on a car that's less than 5 years old.

Hi,
I see my rim & all bolts rusted for all 4. what should I do? I have original warranty still available. I bought 2010 ML 350 (around 29K miles). Should I goto Merc showroom and they would take care of this. Or should I do something myself?

I'll take a guess and say you are in Montreal. It's 11 years old. In areas where a lot of salt is used, rotting underneath is not uncommon. Mine is from Ottawa and beginning to show some rust.

I spent 45K on a GMC truck and the body had holes and the frame rusted and broke in half in 10 years. MB is not the problem, salt is.

Thats unfortunate. I also have a 2010, the only thing that has rust was the transmission cover, and i just replaced that. Otherwise, no rust and i usually go through washes every other week during winters to get rid of the salt. Never done coating.

Washing the car often in winter, particularly the underbody, is good practice.
Storing the car indoors (garage) is also recommended, but it may not be possible for everyone.

That's interesting, hadn't thought of that either. But thinking about it, if there's a heat/cold differential between inside and outside, condensation is likely to occur.
That's just moisture in the air, or in this case, moisture on metal parts.

My 2011 is 11 years old, 100,000 miles, salty winter roads in NJ. Zero rust. I wash it every 2 weeks in winter at drive thru that has underneath sprays. I also park it out doors which inhibits warming and corrosion.
