Am I crazy to buy GLK 250?

Ok here's the deal, I'm jonesing for a 2014 GLK 250 (would be my first MB) but the closest dealer is 550 miles away....aaaargh! The car would probably only get about 6-8 thousand miles per year on the road and a couple trips a year ( even 3) to the city where the dealership is would not be a problem. Do you guys think this is possible or am I just crazy. Your thoughts are appreciated

In a word - Yes.
Considering you can find somebody to do maintenance around you, what if you have to have your glk towed for warranty work and keep it at the dealer for a few days. Also loaners maybe limited to 100 miles a day. At minimum i would play out this scenario and confirm that MB would pay for towing and/or hotel while you wait there for any potential warranty work.

In the days when cars could be repaired, it would have been fine. Land Rovers used to found in the most remote reaches of the British Empire (even BC ) and more recently Toyota Land Cruisers.

But a modern electronics reliant car? I think not unless you have a truck with trailer to get her back to dealer if something goes wrong. Example might be the Adblue error which would limit number of permissible starts before engine would no longer run.

By the way, I have a couple of old Mercedes but no local mechanics that know the old cars. When I had a Chev Tahoe, I would rent a U-haul flatbed to take them to a good mechanic in Toronto area (about 200 miles away).

If I was up there, I would buy something that could be serviced and repaired locally.

If I could get a deal where MB would cover the towing costs for warranty work then sign me up. I have a truck and could rent a trailer worst case scenario to haul her around as well. Owning an MB would definitely be a labour of love.....I'll give the dealership a call and see what they say.

We live over 100 miles from our nearest service and our second residence over 300 miles away from the nearest service, was I afraid to buy our car "with all the modern electrics" simple answer NO. The cars we have now are so much more reliable than those of yesteryear, I've had a 1970 Triumph that sat for 6 months waiting for parts a 1981 Ford truck that liked the shop more than the road, 1982 corvette transmission problems. The cars I've owned in the last years have been relatively trouble free and never left me stranded, I guess i'm saying I have a lot more faith in the cars made now than in the cars "I can work on myself"

It should. Normally your towing cost should be covered to nearest MB repair facility. This is true for most german new and CPO cars. With MB you get this for life of the car as long as you spend at least 100 bucks a year on service at any mb dealer. The hotel while the car is being repaired should also be covered as long as you do repairs at the mb dealer (not a problem during warranty period). I am just not sure if there towing mile restrictions (should not be).

Here is Porsche story, i think MB has similar program.

The OP is in Canada. Roadside assistance program is different. So far as I know, it only applies while car is under original or extended warranty. After that you are on your own.

While under warranty, some costs are covered while waiting for a repair. Up to $500 in hotel costs and $600 in alternative transportation. But only if you have a breakdown more than 80km from home.

Find a local dealer you like and buy that brand. Sooner or later 550 miles will bite you in the but!
