Phone mount - x204

Hi folks,

Still havn't made significant steps in my project. Still studying my car and capabilities.

Now I'm looking into phone mounts.

(Brief reminder - NFC+Nexus5+Screen cast+Audio20+BT Keyboard=One tough multimedia navigational center).

However, I'm kinda clueless when it comes to specific GLK phone mounts. Havn't found any customized GLK phone mounts on ebay or local stores.

Anyone attached his phone to something "fixed"? (not via windshield). I'm looking into installing a fixed phone mount right of the main console (parallel to the radio numbers, just above the right A/C temp dial).

It has to be convenient (especially with a wingmans knee ). It has to be fixed. It has to be close to a hidden space/tunnel so cabling could be placed (and running from behind the console).

At the moment, and I'll upload schematics later on, I'm planning on attaching a 3 5VDC sockets in the glove compartment (and attaching them to the 12VDC of the internal lamp). From there I'll run a microusb cable as hidden as possible directly towards the theoretical mount.

Now a mount and installing it - is essentials

Would love to hear from you!

I just picked up a GLK yesterday and was looking at the pro clip mount. Have them in my FRS and E class, they work really well.

Edit: this is what I will most likely end up with

Don't care for that; blocking the A/C vent just looks bogus...

Consider this options guys:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sinjimoru-...item3a8b404f92

I've ordered something similar, gonna be here by 15th of Mar. I'll let you know how it goes.

Heres what I'm aiming for:

On the second picture the position is shown including cabling options.

YELLOW cable goes behind the mount, "attached" to the dash and into the glove compartment.

RED cable goes below the mount towards the old gear position and directly into the gap between the dash and the arm rest.. from there towards the glove compartment.

Inside the glove compartment I install a 2 or 3 DC splitter and i'll wire it directly to the glove compart' light (its 12DC I reckon, havn't verified yet).

This is part 1 of the project.

Just mentioning the obvious - the position has to be decided according to a wingman knee/leg position. One wrong move and a knee goes stright into the mount, either breaking it or injuring the random kicker...

Additionally, the wiring has to be done in a fashion that wond put the wire in danger (so it won't get torn by some uncontrolled foot or left arm movement - it has to be attached to the console).

What bout Mountek? You don't really need the CD/DVD player anyway since you are trying to hook up your smart phone...

Actually this might be a decent solution. I'd need to figure things out with the cabling - as I dont want free cables stretching around the console.. Should find a way to run them via notches or hidden tunnels..

There's another brand called Infiniapps that also hooks up to the DVD/CD slot. I need to get one this week for my road trip next week to Vegas but I haven't decided which one to get. I have the navigation package but MB just can't compete with Google, Apple Maps, or Waze.

I read that Mountek also works between the gaps on the dash.

I have a 2013 GLK. Assuming that you have an iPhone, are you using your white lightning cable or an attachment to the old iPhone MB cable?

I believe the solution should be independent of the phone, however I used Nexus 5 (which is bigger and bulkier than the iphone).

However, look at the images above regarding the cabling issues. What I plan on doing is installing a DC socket splitter into the glove compartment and wiring it to the internal lamp (which is 12DC).

Then I'd wire my cables through the dash tunnels to the glove (as the sketch shows). If I use mountek I should come up with a decent cabling solution

Maybe I'm not familiar with the Nexus but don't most phones get power from the USB (maybe micro usb for Nexus)? Why do you need a DC cable and USB cable for your phone?

Oh thats a small confusion... All androids use micro usb charger cables, thats fine. However, its where the cable goes that I'm concerned.

The original socket in the GLK is not placed properly (under the handrest cover) and running a cable there looks unaesthetic and loose.

I'll install a 3 socket splitter in the glove compartment and wire the usb micro there.
