rim protectors - Rim Ringz

I thought I'd share my experience with Rim Ringz. For those unfamiliar, it's becoming a trend to add rim protectors onto low profile wheels. I've seen them on Porsches and Maybachs in New York. Google Rim Ringz on their images and you'll see examples.

Got my silver rim protectors for $100 total with shipping. These is a coupon. I'm still on my first set since 2012.

I've accumulated scuffs on my 20 inch GLk OEM rims from parallel parking and hitting curbs while turning. Paid $300 once to refinish the rims professionally, and decided to invest in rim protectors afterwards... as it was a real pain to have them refinished and not be able to drive my vehicle due to the wait due to paint having to dry.

Shopped around, but Rim Ringz is the best. It saved two of my rims already - once on a curb while turning and the other time was when I backed right into a curb I did not see. It destroyed the rim protector in the process. So I am now down to two. However, I only protect the back rims because those are the wheels I use to parallel park.

Good product. Moderate difficulty to install, but once they're on, they stay on. They blend in with the rims nicely. You can install and uninnstall them yourself. Takes about 1 hour, and all the tire needs to have all the air let out before installation.

Looked at the website and found the NY area dealer. Tried to go to their web site, it's not there.

When you deflate the tire I assume that you do not have to break the bead.

Interesting to say the least.

You basically deflate the tire to 10-15 psi. It helps the rim protector slide between the rim and the tire. You do not break the bead. The most painful part is the installation, because you have to deflate the tire each time. Also, you have to deflate it to uninstall the rim protector. But what I liked about this brand is that it doesn't damage the rim in the process of installation. it doesn't leave glue, scuffs, etc.

Not my cup of tea. I'd go with tires with flanges or old fashioned curb feelers if absolutely necessary. Though the tire choices we have for the standard rims are a limited set.

I find that the 360 camera is just the ticket to save rims so far.

I must say - this is an interesting item. And it doubles up for those who like the "time-attack" look.. and if you get tired of the look, simply remove the rings

Rim Ringz

I work in automotive industry for years, but haven't seen most useful accessory on the market for cars like Rim Ringz. A lot of customers when returning their leased cars get charged for excessive wear intair, especially for curbed wheels. And we get to deal with angry customers. We did the research, and found out the best car accessorie for protection of rims. Trust none of those other Mikey Mouse companies do offer you anywhere close protection and nice flush looks like Rim Ringz. Definitely suggested product. These guys have different sizes and colors. You will be absolutely stocked by this product.

Since my GLK came with 20" AMG wheels w/low-profile tires, I got a First Class Tire and Rim Protection for 4 years, paid $1,185+tax Cdn which covers the replacement or repair cost of the tires and rims if they are damaged by a road hazard. I was told by the dealer that from this year their policy has been changed to 'unlimited' use/amount of claims. I thought it was a good deal and actually I already got a scuff from curb so I'm glad I got this.

Tell that to your wife. No matter how I lecture my other half my AMG rims will see the face of the curb that is with the 360 camera already.

I am just waiting for her to trash 1 more ML AMG rim and the GLK AMG rims will be bolted on to the ML with those fugly rim protectors.
