i-Pod connectivity solution anyone? Please help!
Hello everyone. I'm brand spanking new to the site. I recently purchased a 2010 GLK 350 4Matic. Mars red in color; she's a beauty. However, the vehicle has no aux input and I am unable to listen to the music on my iPhone(5s). It is beyond me how in 2010 they could not include such a simple thing and make everyone's life a whole lot easier. You would think such a small and inexpensive gadget would be standard equipment nowadays. Specially on an MB.
Instead, the vehicle has an older i-Pod 30 pin connector hidden in the glove box; tried an Apple 30-pin to lightning adapter today to no avail. Won't even recognize the thing. Tried an FM transmitter also but the sound quality is greatly diminished. The vehicle has no USB input either.
I'm wondering if anyone on the forum who has experienced the same issue could point me in the right direction? I've seen several gadgets already on the web that seem like a possible solution but some people claim they work while others claim they're not compatible. I'd rather avoid the hassle of trying everything out there if at all possible.
Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
P.S. The vehicle does NOT come equipped with the Logic 7 audio system but rather the simpler one. No navigation. No back-up camera. Just bluetooth.

Forget about FM transmitters, they are crap.
Have you consider using a PCMCIA card with a memory card?
I found this solution is much better than others.

Thanks for your suggestion. I read about that option somewhere but I'll be honest in saying I don't know what that is or how it works. I'll have to do some research into it. As I understand it, I would download my music into the memory card and access it from there right? Is there a particular one you might recommend?
Thanks again for your input.

When I got my 2010 GLK I bought 3 cables to plug into the input in the glove box. One was for an 30pin iPod, one for a USB flash drive, and the final was for 3.5mm input. See if the dealer has one of the cables with a 3.5mm input.

Something like this:
Amazon.com: Tera® SDHC CF Card Adapter Converter for Mercedes Benz PCMCIA Command System UP 16, 8, 4, 2, 32 GB for Mobile Phones Digital Cameras GPS Navigation Devices and Tablet Computer: Computers & Accessories
I have a different one, which takes CF memory cards.
I think this is the best way to play music on my '10 GLK.

Only issue is that I have to remember that the phone volume also works so it is not a fixed output.
I am lazy and don't care for trying to sync 5 different devices. Just hook it up to my phone and be done with it.

There's no AUX input in the glove box? I too have a 2010 with the basic sound system. After trying a few different solutions I found this one to work perfectly.
The BT reconnects automatically. And the remote allows you to FF etc without touching your iPod/iPhone.
Coupled with the Niteze ball mount it's about as convenient as possible.
And the audio sounds great, but then I mostly listen to BBC Radio 4 streamed over my phone. Music though sounds great too.

My new (to me) '11 has an aux in and i-pod 30 pin cable from one connector. I agree it's a stupid setup (not like there's a lot of room in there to begin with!).
Aux-in doesn't usually allow for deck control, though.
If you already have the 30-pin cable, look for a 3 pin to lightening connector converter on eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lightning-to-30-pin-Adapter-Converter-Socket-Cable-Connector-For-iphone-White-/171653329361?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27f755f1d1). That might allow full iPod connectivity (unless it won't talk to the iPhone OS).

I'm pretty sure AUX in glove box was standard. Ipod connector was an option.
I bought PCMCIA adapter and 16GB SD card. What it really needs is the bluetooth streaming.
