2010 Vs. 2013 GLK Tail lights

Does anyone here know if the 2013 GLK tail lights work on the 2010-2012 GLK models? the dimensions are the same...but, the 2013 model are LED and I was thinking that maybe the electrical is different?

also, the license plate bulbs are LED and the front LED fogs are pretty cool, but not as cool as the tail lights!

Might require programming. I know on my VW GTI, it requires extensive coding to get the LED lamps to function - and in the case of the new MKVII generation it even requires extra wiring to gain full functionality.

Yeah, it frosts me that my 2011 has 1940s technology rear lights while Hondas and Toyotas came with LEDs, especially since MBs are notoriously hard on light bulbs...

this was the annoying issue I found with MB cars earlier years and in today too. Majority of pre-built cars doesn't come with HID head lights yet they have LED daytime running lights. It's fascinating to me that Mercedes is a LUXURY Brand andHID lights aren't standard. IT is a safety concern at night time if you ask me.

Unless you buy a FULLY LOADED car then it has LED light package. Just pathetic especially seeing in a rear view mirror a nice LED daytime running light then on top of it is a Halogen headlights.

I know huh!? It boggles my mind also. My 2012 glk 350 has the HID lights and "the led rear tailights" (which only the turning signals are led, the rest are bulbs)

I wanted to know if anyone had replaced their 2010-2012 read tailights for the 2013^ LED ones shown in the pictures above?

What also frosts me is I didn't even know about the Xenon option (which includes LED rears) when I got my car or I would have ordered them.

My bad for not doing more research (and finding this forum!) before buying...

I had a 2013 loaner the other day and just could not get used to all the changes like: the turning/cruise control arm switch, the column shifter was the biggest bummer...felt like I was driving a old pick up truck or station wagon...
NOT COOL.

any way...thanks for that comment!

There are numerous LED tail light assemblies available on ebay, many for under $200 per side.

Still not sure if they will work without throwing error messages but at least they will fit...

rmfnla - You say there are numerous LED's for the GLK on eBay. Where? I've looked for X204 LED Taillights, GLK LED Taillghts, GLK LED, etc, and the only LED's I get are for the C class. What search word are you using?

Thank you

I did it on my 2012 model. CAD$500+ installation labour+a special adapter. It looks great but not recommended since the installation process is a pain in the ***. It would be great if someone can invent an aftermarket plug and play taillight assembly for our GLK!

My tec made it work without programming. The control module would be compatible with extensive re-wiring.

I see some bulbs on Amazon that replace the filament bulbs with LEDs so you get the instantaneous response of LED but nothing that changes out the entire assembly to look like a '13 and work in a 2010-2012 either there or on eBay. The LEDs usually have a resistor to avoid causing electrical problems. They are just plug and play with your same housing.

I went on a parts website online ( i will repost when I remember the site) and bought a pair of the 2013-16 led tail lights and did a re-pin of a couple of the wires and they function fine. Basically plug and play.
