2012 GLK350 Cigarette Lighter Socket Help Please...

Hi Everyone,

I have a 2012 GLK350 4Matic (Canadian) and my cigarette lighter socket stopped working all of a sudden, even the cargo compartment 12V socket as well. Both were working last week...

Per the fuse chart / diagram in the GLK, I checked both fuse boxes in the engine and cargo compartments and both 15A fuses appear to be intact and not blown. Both sockets look OK inside with no bent parts.

Can somebody please help me with this issue or provide any suggestions?

Thanks and much appreciated.

I"m not sure if this helps but when my cigarette lighter (by the shifter) went out in mine I found the blown 15A fuse for it in my trunk near the spare tire. I replaced it and it now it works fine. I have a 2010 GLK 4matic.

Thanks eyeckr for taking the time to reply. I apologize if I wasn't clear in my post, but I already checked the 15A fuse in the cargo compartment (fuse box in the trunk by the spare tire) and the fuse is OK...

Yes, I was wondering if we were talking about the same fuse box. Sorry to hear it is not as easy as replacing a fuse. I'm not sure what the next step to troubleshooting would be though Good luck finding the issue.

The next thing I would do is check the voltage at the fuse and see what you have. If you don't have voltage, its probably a SAM issue. My 2013 has the ability to turn off loads when the car goes to sleep or voltage gets too low. I'm assuming yours is the same. You could have a bad switch or relay in the SAM that isn't allowing the current through to the device.

If you do have voltage, check with something that draws some current, like a 12 volt lamp. The reason for this is that some SAM outputs use solid state switches and they all have some leakage. A voltmeter might indicate voltage is present when its really just reading the leakage. An old 12 volt taillight or brake light would pull enough current to let you see if the switch is working. If the light turns on brightly, you may have a wiring issue between the SAM and the fuse block.

Good luck

The socket itself could be broken, i have verified the fuse and wiring and in my case the socket itself is broken. I will be replacing it with a dual USB socket and will post up pictures later tomorrow.

Barely related, but in case anyone is interested, this low profile phone charger let's you close the lighter door while still plugged-in: http://a.co/1qQeFCD

And this coiled iPhone lightning cable will fit in the ash tray space: http://a.co/0VUn7y2

My 2014 GLK250 front console cigarette lighter just blown the fuse today. Put in a fresh fuse and it still blows. So I took the whole cigarette casing out and unplugged it. Multimetered it and lol the socket (supposedly to be unbreakable, no moving parts, no electronics) is SHORT-CIRCUITED! And I cannot separate the lighter socket from the casing! Don’t want to order the whole unit. Any one know if there is separate socket available? Or does it (ie the whole casing) need to be replaced? Thanks
