GLK350 Wont start

I have a glk350 and my car won't start, the car had just started and ran 10 minutes before. I put the key in the ignition and it turns all the way to the start position but it wont crank nor start. Locking and unlocking car works, automatic tailgate functions. and the light turns on in the cluster and dome but no other lights come on other than the middle cluster screen. In position 2 of the key usually where the a/c and accessories should come on they do not but i am able to turn the radio on by pressing the power button. I have tried both the original and spare key, same outcome. Battery could need replacing due to it being almost 4 years or could it be a fuse? just hoping its not the EIS since car is not under warranty anymore.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

What year is it, maybe it's under warranty, it's Likely the battery. Can you get a battery charger and charge it? If the charger has an AGM setting use it.

Just put a new battery in today. No luck same symptoms. Could it be one of the fuses?

Crankshaft position sensor may be problem and also check the secondary battery.

What is the voltage of the battery. It doesn't matter that it's new, sometimes-often, they are sold not fully charged , its strange headlights won't light. If you have a charger put it on. Some Glks have a second battery for electronics, that could be what is powering accessories when key is on. But not lighting headlights to me still means no power, like a bad ground, dead battery, I don't know about a main fuse that could handle the power of a battery, I've never heard of one, but I don't really know MB. Check voltage and put a charger on it, at least rule out lack of proper voltage.

There are some large fuses just next to the positive battery terminal that could cause your symptoms. There is a pre-fuse box in the assembly under the jump-start connection, just forward of the battery. Pop the top of the jump-start block and use a meter to check them. Some of the interior lighting and other functions come from the rear SAM, so it probably would explain why some things still function.

Not sure what year you have but you may have a auxiliary battery in the back. I don't think it being dead would prevent you from starting the car, but it can confuse the symptoms when troubleshooting the main system.

Helps if you specify the year of your vehicle in your profile. More information always helps.

Oh sorry its a 2010 haha thought i specified it. i have a feeling its the electronic steering lock or the EIS switch to be honest going to tow it to dealership this Monday to find out. Because if it is the two issues i mentioned only the dealer can repair it from what other local mechanics told me. Towing around the city is a pain especially for the pocket.

Did you try your other key? Do headlights work? Was the memory being saved with auxilary when battery was swapped? I read online to check fuse 52 or 53. You should have around 12.7 volts. Just after a charge you would read 13.2- 13.6 v. If it's low it won't crank but other things will work.

Just to update anyone who might have similar symptoms, it is the Electronic Steering Lock inside the steering column that is broken and not unlocking. This is not allowing the car to detect the key which does not authorize the key in order to turn on the accessories in 2nd key position or crank and start in 3rd turn position. Dealer quoted 1500 for repair, living in Alberta, Canada.

You can see why it is expensive to pull all that stuff apart.

Glk350 won't start

I live in Vancouver and same thing happened to my 2010 glk 350. It just turned 100,000 km. My dealer estimated 2000 bucks. Apparently only the dealership is able to do this job. They won't sell the part to anyone, and needs to be programmed along with the keys. MB have got us by you know what. Is this a common problem with this vehicle? Good thing it stopped working in my driveway, but still had to get it towed. Just replaced the abs module another 1500. Good thing It was under extended warrantee, and didn't have to pay, but my warrantee ran out in Sept. and have to pay the 2000 for the switch.

Just a FYI that there are many posts on the C forum about this and ways to disable it altogether. Way cheaper than 2k at an independent mechanic.

I should have checked with this forum first. Before towing it to dealership. I'll know for next time, but I did let a mechanic look at it first, and told me that only MB is able to do it.

It happened to my 2011 GLK350 this August too (127,000km). Parked at friend's place and needed to tow to Mercedes Boundary.
Called one of ind shop, and told to send to dealer.
I asked how did they diagnose the problem as there is no power pass through in any key position. Wonder how to hook up scanner and scan.
Seems it's quite common problem. Paid the $$ and got it fixed.

11.4 is likely a shorted cell, it’s dead. Replace it with an AGM battery

Similar issue with one of my GLK's but it was a battery and a fuse junction box under the hood with all the same symptoms.

accurate. I just did this on my 2008 w204 c350. Took it to a shop in LA who completed it within the day and i drove home that night, for ~ $750. It’s pretty cool the emulator even makes a simulated unlocking noise. Will do the same thing for the GLK when it comes to that.
