2013 GLK 350 engine failure from oil filter?
So i got my oil change with at a local shop near my house, and i provided the genuine mercedes oil filter 000 180 26 09 i got from amazon and mobil 1 synthetic oil. I get a check engine light the same day from the oil change and was told by the shop i would have to visit mercedes, which i did. The service advisor tells me i need a new engine because the oil filter was the wrong part which caused internal damage due to the oil filter sucking up too much oil and parts of the engine was not lubricated enough.
I think this guy is full of ****. Any thoughts?
After researching on google, a wrong oil filter can cause engine internal issues. So now i am a bit worried. I am contacting the seller of the oil filter on wtf kind of filter they sent me etc. Also, going to see if the filter installed on the car is the one i provided the local shop.
link to the product. So after looking at it more closely this was a MANN filter in a mercedes box????????? Assuming the part number 000 180 26 09 is also for MANN filter part number?

The CEL was on when I picked up the same day (dropped it off early 9am and picked up at 6pm.) The shop was closed by the time I had went there to pick up the car so I could not get the CEL code.
Anyway, I declined the stealership's suggestion and had it towed to my family friend's Euro car shop by GEICO for free. The tech there could not believe that the dealership suggested that I need a new engine. He said the oil filter on the car was correct and nothing wrong there... He could not make out what the issue was probably because the CEL was reset. He said they would check for codes again etc... They will get back to me tomorrow
BUT THEY DEF SAID I DO NOT NEED A NEW MOTOR... Hopefully it is true...
A wrong filter would not cause immediate engine damage. Improper oil change procedures will.
Things like removing all prior oil with a strong oil extractor, replacing all seals, adding the correct not max not minimum oil amount, changing oil at intervals, and using the correct oil grade needs to be taken into account.
Also be careful of places that offer "synthetic blend oil", keyword is blend. It is not fully synthetic oil.
$4200 worth of damage that I actually believe was due to a failed timing belt tensioner...
I had them give me the suspect oil filter and took it back to my friend's shop who did the oil change in question and we pulled it up.... it was an oem filter.
Stealership just threw that out there as an excuse for not knowing what the problem was and figured I would buy it.
I'm to blame for actually letting my wife take the car into the stealership.

and I always buy the mobil 1 synthetic oil
Never use a synthetic blend oil from anywhere
