2012 GLK 350 Transfer case or Transmission problem. ~HELP~
Hi, I have a 2012 GLK 350 with 28990 miles on it. Recently there is swoosh sound when driving in a low speed, and i feel shudder/vibration when doing the sharp turn.
I searched the internet , seems like many owner has same problem because of the faulty transfer case and transmission.
My car is out of warranty already, any suggestion for either fix it or trade it in? the reason i am thinking to trade it in is i am afraid of same thing might happen again after the car is fixed.
I don't even know if i could trade it in at this point because of the transmission issue.
If I take it to dealer to ask them to fix it. what would be a reasonable price? 8k? 7K?
if the cost is a lot cheaper, will it be okay to take the car to non-dealer workshop for repair?
need your help! any advise is appreciated.

350 GLK, C280
Assuming it is in good value, it probably will trad at around $16,000 usd. If you take that $8,000 for repair, you can break even at around $24k with either a new other brand new car or a loaded 2015 GLK CPO with maybe 40k or less miles but a 3 + 1 year unlimited mileage warranty taking you out to 2019.

Man, that's low miles to have an issue like this already. I would have it checked out by a transmission shop instead of a dealer. We have Certified Transmissions around here and they are very competitive on pricing for replacement transmissions if that's the problem.

after reading other replies , now i am more leaning towards fixing it. I am gonna take it to 3rd party shop to do a estimate and most likely gonna fix it there.
I 've read a lot of negative reviews of near by MB service center. Many people got their car fixed outside for a fraction of money of a dealer quote.

I am gonna do a thorough check when weather gets a little better.
Do you know if it is necessary to warm the car first before driving in winter months? i never do that

The CV joint connects the axle to the wheel, it flexes. If the sound is with each rotation it could be a bad cv joint, oil is different that is internal. You need to get someone to check it out . It could be under 500 to fix, CV joints eventually break when they go bad , so get a good regular mechanic , not a transmission shop, just a good local guy to look at it.

Is repairing, rebuilding, or replacing with a rebuilt transmission a much lower cost and doable alternative in this kind of situation? I know for most other makes and models transmission repair or replacement is pretty common. Of course, this is porbably more complicated and more stuff to contend with and connect to make it just right, but it's hard to believe that, as much as this apparently happens, it's not easy to locate Mercedes transmission specialists.
Anybody know of transmission shops in the Dallas area with significant experience in this kind of work for Mercedes transmissions?
Thanks.

I'm noticing a slight klunk when getting off the gas sharply, and suspect it is the transmission mount. In looking at the mount design, I may purchase a new mount but do some modifications to it which may make it a bit more robust.
