Windshield Replacement
Has anyone had any experiences with replacing the windshield after having damage from rocks? Costs from dealer, third party shops, things to look for?

Most glass shops will take precautions with the rear view mirror assembly before disassembling the glass. I would NOT take it to Safelite or something like that. I've been quoted around $500-$600 for a new windshield from various dealers. I also got quotes from a glass shop for $80 labor + my provided windshield from dealer.
Make sure you buy the top seal and replace that at the same time.

Thanks for the tips. Insurance companies in Florida are required to replace windshields with $0 deductible and they will not deny any claim by law. The MB dealer quoted $1400 bucks with windshield and all the seals included with $500 in labor. The lane departure has to be re-calibrated so I would need to go to the dealer at the end. Just wondering what other quotes people have received.

About $420 for the glass itself if I were to use wholesale dealer price, maybe another $30 for misc parts.
Just to clarify about a previous remark I made, I would only buy the glass from the dealer but not install it there. I just have a hard time paying the mark up.Call around your independent auto glass shops, I am certain they will tell you do not need to re-calibrate anything when you change out the windshield and $500 for labor is crazy. Your insurance is footing the bill so I wouldn't investigate too much into it.

I replaced the windshield on my 2010 three times with Safelight. Both Nationwide and USAA use Safelight. They did it in the parking lot twice and once in their shop. Never had a problem with their installation, the mirror or the rain sensor. My insurance company picked up the tab all three times. There system did not mark the car and the rubber surrounds never came lose or made noise. Got hit by flying stones all three times. Hope my 2014 doesn't have a similar jinks, but I would not hesitate to have Safelight do the job. However, all the MB's I have had (7) had soft original windshields. That is, after 40k miles the windshields were pitted enough to give glare problems when driving into the sun. The 2014 has 47k and the pitting problem. The American replacement glass seems harder and doesn't pit nearly as fast.

Based on my experience from many years in Colorado where a lot of gravel is used in the winter, I agree with your comments about harder replacement glass from the USA. However, this harder glass seems more prone to chipping and cracking than the softer glass which tends to pit rather than crack.
