2011 GLK350 Display Replacement?
I don't mind doing the work myself, but I am not sure about getting a replacement unit. Seem to be plenty on eBay? but I am worried and want to avoid any potential issues like "Vin-Lock" etc? I have changed out a few stereos in my day but nothing like this. To be clear I would like a direct Factory replacement. I have Nav, not that I use it, but what do I need to watch out for?
Cheers
Marc
vents out
display assembly out
display assembly disassembled
ordered this thingy
Ok, got really pissed off and tore the thing apart tonight.
Found a strong wire and bent it to a nice shape to pull out the vents.
Took the vents out, the rest was easy.
After full disassembly, identified the screen as LG LB070WV1-TD17 and went into aliexpress to order one.
Ordered to Canada from China. 7 day shipment included 155 USD (210 CAD).
Will assemble everything and lets see what,ll happen.
My display was not working, but audio was fine. We'll see what happens now.

Notes to self:
Invest in a good screwdriver set
Keep the beer as a trophy once you're done, not the other way round.
My screen arrived in 8 days from Aliexpress to Canada.
Looks identical and was perfectly protected.
Installed it back in 5 minutes and Voila!
PERFECT AND LOOKS BRAND NEW!
Less than $200 to install a brand new Comand screen!

Based on the photos of the screen in this thread, it's clear that "it's only the screen", and doesn't contain the processing for all the many functions that drive the screen.
It looks (according to my service manual) that the "radio unit" drives the display. This MIGHT NOT be exactly the same as your GLK, but I'm betting the basic architecture is the same throughout the entire GLK line...

It is possible that this could be diagnosed exactly with Xentry. That would require having Xentry and the knowledge to use it, or an expensive trip to the dealer.
COMAND head units should be interchangeable IFF they are the same NTG version and have the same functions activated. NTG 4.0 was replaced by NTG 4.5 at the facelift. When replacing, it is best to get the part number from the original and get a replacement with the same part number.
The toss up is whether to replace the screen anyway, as it is definitely the easiest and may be the least expensive.
