2011 GLK350 Display Replacement?
So long story short took my GLK to an autobody place for some hail damage and got it back and there are lines across the screen. Its been a year fighting to have them replace it, it's going nowhere, going to just report them to the Better Business Bureau etc.
I don't mind doing the work myself, but I am not sure about getting a replacement unit. Seem to be plenty on eBay? but I am worried and want to avoid any potential issues like "Vin-Lock" etc? I have changed out a few stereos in my day but nothing like this. To be clear I would like a direct Factory replacement. I have Nav, not that I use it, but what do I need to watch out for?
Cheers
Marc

I think the Nav unit is larger than the non-nav but I could be wrong about that. You may want to try unplugging it and cleaning the connector with something like DeOxit and plugging it back in. It could just be loose.

vents out
display assembly out
display assembly disassembled
ordered this thingy
Ok, got really pissed off and tore the thing apart tonight.
Found a strong wire and bent it to a nice shape to pull out the vents.
Took the vents out, the rest was easy.
After full disassembly, identified the screen as LG LB070WV1-TD17 and went into aliexpress to order one.
Ordered to Canada from China. 7 day shipment included 155 USD (210 CAD).
Will assemble everything and lets see what,ll happen.
My display was not working, but audio was fine. We'll see what happens now.

Molson Canadian + Dollarama Screwdriver (4 cad) helps a lot to build the courage.
Notes to self:
Invest in a good screwdriver set
Keep the beer as a trophy once you're done, not the other way round.

Okko, if the screen is showing the MB logo, the problem is NOT your screen, but what drives it (assuming every time it comes on it has the MB logo). It's kind of like if your TV was only displaying your cable box's start-up logo, you wouldn't replace your TV...

What do you think it could be? I tried changing the fuse as well and that didn’t help.

Happily, I have no idea... ;-) That is to say, I'm new to the GLK world, and haven't had to dig into my screen / nav / audio system (yet...).
Based on the photos of the screen in this thread, it's clear that "it's only the screen", and doesn't contain the processing for all the many functions that drive the screen.
It looks (according to my service manual) that the "radio unit" drives the display. This MIGHT NOT be exactly the same as your GLK, but I'm betting the basic architecture is the same throughout the entire GLK line...

The basic canbus architecture is the same for w204 and x204. That’s where it ends.
It is possible that this could be diagnosed exactly with Xentry. That would require having Xentry and the knowledge to use it, or an expensive trip to the dealer.
COMAND head units should be interchangeable IFF they are the same NTG version and have the same functions activated. NTG 4.0 was replaced by NTG 4.5 at the facelift. When replacing, it is best to get the part number from the original and get a replacement with the same part number.
The toss up is whether to replace the screen anyway, as it is definitely the easiest and may be the least expensive.

At first I had someone install a smaller screen locally, but then I wanted a larger one and learned how to do it myself, you would need tools like this to remove the central console: Elf Bee Instrument Cluster...
