I'm going to take the plunge and guinea pig for everyone. It's startlingly inexpensive so we'll see what I get. I placed my order so I'll see the kit in a week or so and offer pictures and a write-up.

Got the dash apart without breaking anything! Do a YouTube search for 2014 GLK dashboard, there are tutorials.

Received the kit yesterday, learned how to take the dashboard apart and gave it a go. Had some odd issues with the COMAND knob not working and my SiriusXM stopped working, so I put the system back to normal for now. (Need to DD the car) I contacted SardinCar and they're pretty responsive, so I'll take some pictures as I give it another go and let you all know the results. I will say, the wiring harnesses all look really nice, properly put together, the little box isn't too big. I'd like more thorough instructions from them even though it should be self-explanatory. Stay tuned!

Got it working - CarPlay into 2014 GLK 250

I pulled everything apart again yesterday, changed where a few items got located, wired it correctly this time, and it just works! My GLK has the multimedia package with NAV, Mercedes MMV -> iPhone/iPod cable, aux-in, etc, and the 7" screen. This is very much a plug and play system as long as you plug things into the right spots. If you have NAV and SiriusXM, you'll have two orange optical cables as part of your radio harness. The included adapter harness does not accommodate pass-thru of these cables, so you'll need to pop the little molded fitting out of your factory harness and snap it into the blank area on their pass-thru harness. It latches in place just fine and I had no problems.

Factory harness with two orange optical cables.

Face-on view so you can see the optical fittings in the upper left.

Move the fitting holding the optical cables into their harness, it'll snap into place.

I pulled the screen out and mounted their little silver box in the space just below the monitor. There's no way you'll install this box behind the head unit. I routed the cabling of their harness that go to this box up the right side around the air vent duct and through a very small void.

Pull out the monitor exposing a small area below that the silver box can sit into.

Route the other end of their harness up the right side, along with the USB and audio back down, and the video in/out cables.

The rest of the cables routed up the right side void.

On your head unit will be a few video cables, color coded, into right angle adapters. Pull the grey one out of the head unit, feed it back into the dash, and up the same right side path so that it comes out to the silver box up at the monitor. Plug it into the blue receptacle of their silver box. Then the cable they provide to create the video loop goes back down the same path and into the grey receptacle on your head unit.

Here's my dip switch settings for: Use factory microphone, Use factory backup camera, 7" screen, use aux audio out of their box to aux in (in center console), no extra video inputs.

Dip switches for *my* car: YMMV

I *strongly* recommend you test everything at this point. Don't bother screwing anything back in place yet. Make sure your NAV, SiriusXM, COMAND wheel, etc all work properly. If not, power down and re-seat the harness at the back of the radio. It can be finicky, so be patient and thorough to make sure everything is sung. When it all works, long-press the <back> button and you should see their UI:

Well look at that!

If you get this far, test some more. Long press <back> to get back to COMAND, switch to your AUX audio input, long press back into CarPlay, and test audio from your iPhone as well. Once you're satisfied that everything functions, put the monitor back in and snap the frames back around it. Then take a deep breath, and prepare for the hardest part of this install. Getting the head unit back into the dash and latched / screwed in place is a chore. Their harness adapter is *huge* and there's not very much spare room in the head unit cavity. I spent about three hours tucking wires down to the right, under the little lip below the head unit cavity, and trying different positions of placing their harness adapter plug before I finally got it. I tucked lots of wires down and right, then flattened their adapter down to the bottom of the cavity just past the lip inside, and finessing the radio in left side first. Tip: Tape the orange optical cables to the harness about 3" back to hold them out of your way. You'll be putting the radio in and out repeatedly until you finally get it. Once the radio is in place and screwed back in, test everything again. Trust me, do it. I hope my extra hours figuring this all out makes it easier for others. If I'd been armed with all of my knowledge when I started, I think this job would've taken 90 minutes to 2 hours start to finish.

Thanks for the write up! Nifty work too.
Sadly this looks more labour intensive then I’m willing to tackle right now. (Two small kids and a big workload means little free time to pull apart the main car). I was quite excited about this too.

If if you can please let us know how it’s going and how it holds up as time goes by.

Looks great and exactly what I want to do! Why don't they have the price on their website. Maybe I'm blind and don't see it?

Still works like a champ, really no major complaints. The monitor flickers every once in a while but I don't want to take everything apart again. It's very minor, but functionally it's spot-on. PM me regarding price.

Do you remember if the harness for the box includes any line level output?

Yes, I'm not even going to attempt to contact the business unless I know what the price of their product is first.

Has anyone used this with Android Auto? Do you receive updates for Android Auto with this device or is it stuck on the version that you get?

Also wondering how this looks on the smaller non-nav screen.

Yes, there are newer version from other sellers, and frankly they all seem to do the same thing. They may have a slightly different layout on the ports, but ultimately they are the same, they probably have one or two master designs they follow.

I've never understood this secretive BS and why they won't tell you the price. If that's the way they want to play the game, I'll look elsewhere. Anyway, the average price for these boxes is about $250-$275. I bought mine from Amazon.com. The one I got support wireless CarPlay and wireless Android Auto. The problem with Wirelss Android Auto, is that it's officially supported only on Google Pixel phones. That's Google's decision, not the adapter manufacturer. I have a Kenwood installed in my SL550, and it's the same way. I understand that there is a way to enable wireless Android Auto on other phones by downloading certian services and SDKs from Google Market, but I haven't looked into it yet.

Here is the link to the one I bought, but if you search on eBay for "CarPlay NTG4.5" you'll find dozens of vendors:
Amazon Amazon

Today I tried installing the beast, got everything apart, and connected to the box and everything was running beautifully, but then I hit a wall, literally, when I tried to put everything back inside the dash. There simply isn't any room. So I'd like to extend my thanks to the OP for the detailed explanation of his installation.

bump for my question. If a call is through carplay, people can’t hear me until i change the audio on the phone to bluetooth. Any other installers dealing with the same issue?
