Bad ABS/ESP Module - Options?

I have a 2010 GLK350 4matic. I had the dashboard warning lights for ESP ABS malfunction. Scanned the car and got codes 5001 & 5944 Control Unit N30/4 (electronic Stability Program control unit) internal fault.

I sent the control box (P/N A204 545 5132) to a company in Canada called Xemodex. They tested it and told me that it is not repairable.

The car has 165,000 miles on it. It is in outstanding condition and I was looking to buy a different car. The dealer only offered me $6,000 for the car as it sits now. If I can repair the ABS/ESP I am sure I could get at least $9,000 for it. (KBB Private Party is $10k).

Dealer wants about $1,000 for a new part and another $1,000 to program a new unit. I can't get my head around having to pay $1,000 to program a new unit. There has to be other options out there. Anyone know of a place to get a pre-programmed replacement?
Any options/suggestions?

I am guessing it is $1000CAD to take out the old one, put in the new one, program the new one, and bleed the brakes.

Look for a used unit , it should not need programming.

I believe if I put in a used one it needs to be vin coded to my vehicle.

If that’s not true, I would love to know.

Not if it’s already coded to a glk, that’s why you get used, for that price it’s worth a try instead of spending 2000,

You are right, I will give it a try and report back here on how it works!

I found a thread on another site (benzworld.org) titled: Re-Coding ESP Module? They also indicate that if you get a replacement from the same year, make and model that you won't need to recode it.

I found this one on Ebay, It has all the right numbers except the ones in the middle. Any ideas what those numbers mean?

Get one with a guarantee, i think any dirt getting into it would ruin it, how good it is depends on the care they took removing and storing it, like if all the ports were sealed immediately with plugs.

Well, the saga continues....

I installed the new (used) N30/4 module. I now have an error code 6301.

VINs in control modules N73(Electronic
ignition lock control unit) and N30/4
(Electronic Stability Program control unit)
are not identical

Guess I need the esp unit vin matched to my car. Don't think/know if my scanner can do that. I have a Autel MD802 MaxiDiag Elite.

I will also see if my local Indy will do it. Hope so.

you need to go to a mercedes benz transmission shop, a mercedes benz repair shop, or a mercedes benz dealership.

Do you think a dealership would recode a used part?

I do not think dealership would under any circumstance. A local indy may do it for you but you'll still have to pay (still coming out ahead), hopefully they can accomplish this. Just posting this for future searches, there are companies out there who will rebuild ABS units. this is one of them:
