infotainment screen broken. Best option to replace?

2010 glk 350 100,000 miles. Stereo works, but screen is broken. not a fuse. I have looked all over google and other than ebay cannot find either replacement part or substitute part. Any advice appreciated.

Might try junk yards for wrecks with good interiors. They sold a lot of these. Are you sure it is the screen. Mine would go out every now and then due to the boot of the system. You may have either bad connections from the controller or a corrupt controller.

ugh i am not looking forward to this repair, seems like another popular one.
on my friends 2012 glk, his screen went out thankfully while still in warranty. They replaced the whole unit was a 4 figure bill.

one thought I had was talking to a reputable 12-volt guy to see if any options exist for replacing the headunits on these trucks with aftermarket ones. I don't know if this is an option, as I believe a lot of vehicle communication is done through the headunit?

Im watching this thread to see what the options are as well. Please keep us posted

A gaggle of MB's
Replacements from used units are available on eBay - best to seek out a talented independent car electronics installer/shop..

Remanufactured COMAND unit can be found for about $1100. I know, it's a lot.

There are a few threads on here detailing aftermarket head units installed, complete with NAV and bigger displays, do a little search.

^^ actually not that bad, nice find. I suspect if you were to do a full aftermarket install like others it would prob run $1500-$2000 ish and be a very involved installation.

Yes, I agree it probably would run you more to go aftermarket but doing it "well." Even then, if you ever sell your car or trade-in, the aftermarket accessories don't seem to add (or even retain) value like the OEM equipment.

At least in my experience...

Reman unit should be plug-n-play basically.

Hi, I have a similar problem.
https://mbworld.org/forums/glk-class...n-failure.html

I was going to bite the bullet and order a screen off from China and try to do it myself.
What do you think about it?

Since the screen is not part of the controller, the big box below the vents, it should be an easy replacement. Remove the surrounding plastic as shown in any number of the posts on backup cameras, unscrew, unplug from controller and replace.
Good luck but I don't think you need to open any electronics.

UPDATE:
My screen arrived in 8 days from Aliexpress to Canada.
Looks identical and was perfectly protected.
Installed it back in 5 minutes and Voila!
PERFECT AND LOOKS BRAND NEW!
Less than $200 to install a brand new Comand screen!

not tricky at all.
I had to bend a metal piece to pull out the air vents (unplugged the socket from the air vent piece that is connected to hazard lights and esp off switch)
Then took out two plastic trim pieces by hand
Two screws hold the screen assembly in once place, unscrewed them
Unplugged two cables from behind the assembly
Opened up the assembly (4 screws)
the screen and the board are attached together via 1 ribbon, 2 cable harnesses and 4 screws. unplugged the harnesses and ribbon than unscrewed the 4 screws and I got the screen separated from the board

got the replacement through aliexpress and did everything exactly in reverse.
total time (if you have the spare at hand) is max 10 minutes. I'd say replacing a light bulb is way more complicated than doing this.
