Ha!! Who are they kidding?!! I put 247k miles on my previous jag ('97); the leather certainly looked worn, but still hadn't cracked (and I did nothing to 'care' for it). My current '95 jag has 165k miles, and there is very little wear. As you saw, MBTex starts falling apart at 20k miles. I wish leather had been an option on our GLK250. My wife was very disappointed when I got the car home and we realized it wasn't leather.

I will go with Richmond if anything else starts to go (back, passenger seat, etc.). If you are comparing the two, you will see a difference. But neither of us notice it; frankly, the worn MBTex is what looked crappy; this is MUCH better all the way around. If you are entering your car into a car show, don't do Richmond. Or, do both front seats the same way.... Otherwise, you will be happy that it looks so much better with the torn/worn MBTex gone.

Has anyone purchased the TAN leather seat cover from Richmond? How close was the color? Any pics of it installed? Thank you!

Sounds like grounds for a complaint at the least, and a small claims case if that doesn't fly. Money says they didn't want to special order the leather.

(I'm reading this thread because my driver's side bolster is cracking at 70K miles. Does anyone know if the two sides can be swapped? It looks like Richmond offers different parts depending on which side. Too bad, I can get a nice passenger's side for next to nothing...)

Changed my seat cover today. Beige with seat heater. Part number was 204-910-91-46-8M62, glad i called Mercedes and gave them my VIN to give me the exact number because I almost ordered the wrong part listed on the other mercedes parts sites. Part was 265$ US inc shipping. It has the cover and seat heater built in so no need to transplant the seat heater was plug and play. Took me 1.5 hours not that difficult. Once you remove the two front screws the seat comes right up and off. A small hickup was that my GLK has a seat pocket built into the front of the seat that is riveted on. So once I had the seat off i had to drill out the rivets and change for regular screws when I reinstalled the seat. Looks brand new now. Very happy with my decision to get the OEM seat.

You would think MBtex would be more durable but had to replace driver's and rear bench. Oem the only way to go.

MB Tex used to be good back in the 89s and 90s car when it was pure smooth vinyl (that still hold up today). After Mercedes (and many OEMs) tried to up the game to make it more leather like with the "soft-touch" grain textures as when the problems occured. It is basically a thin layer of plastic texture that doesn't have a solid bond. cleaning the material with anything but a cotton towel or denim rubbing against it simply pulls that texture up from the substrate.

My 2011 E350 71k miles garage kept, just lost a small piece 1/8" round on the upper left hand side. I bought a kit to fix it. I never use microfiber clothes to clean, just old cotton t-shirts. But I am curious whats the best way to remove my wife's hand creams and sunblock fro the interior. I use soap and water, but does get all of it out. I want to try something that cleans but also extends the life of not only the seats, but also the interior trim. Any suggestions? Also, something I used years ago on my interior has mad the flat finish on my rear enter console air ducts start to peel. Replaced the air duct several years ago for about $350. It has happened again and now the part cost $200 and the dealer labor is $300-$400. It's actually easy to remove, so I wonder about painting it with a flat black paint, or maybe just a clear flat paint. Any ideas?
