Another problem. Leaking transmission.... sigh.
A good mechanic of mine lifted up the car to check the drive shaft issue. We found a leak from the transmission as well. We think it’s leaking from where the drive shaft enters into the transmission, but then it could also be leaking from somewhere else since the area looks darker . This is a 4matic. 2013 GLK350 with the 722.9 7G Tronic +
Do I have to replace the whole transmission? Is it leaking very bad? I had the fluid and filter replaced about a year and a half ago. Can the output shaft seal be replaced without opening the transmission? Time to sell the car??

Or i mean re service it, overfilling might have caused a leak, it’s crazy there isn’t an easy way to check for fill level . But don’t wait to let it go low. It may not be low now, so measure what you remove .

i want to get it checked, but it’s too hard finding an Indy mechanic with the proper tools to check the fluid level. I don’t want to get shafted by the dealer either. Does this transmission 722.9 tronic + NAG2 have an overflow breather? It may have been overfilled like you said.

So I lifted it again and double checked this morning. It wasn’t leaking, when I drove for 20 miles, it started leaking again after I lifted it up. It’s coming from the output shaft seal to the rear axle.

yeah looks like the output shaft seal. I didn’t get mine fixed. It only leaks in the winter when it’s below freezing outside. It’s been parked in the garage most of the time now since my wife is on maternity leave so I take the second car. I guess the seal shrinks in the winter and goes back to normal in the summer

The guibo joint looks bone dry and the transmission looks wet much further up from the output shaft seal. While the output shaft may be leaking a bit, most of the leak is coming from something forward of the output shaft.

yeah looks to be a couple of issues. Leaking output shaft seal and maybe the seam between the transfer case and transmission. Mercedes uses an RTV sealant to repair the leak. I think there was a TSB for this.
