'12 GLK350 4Matic 20" rims - Tire Size
Hi All,
Looking for some guidance around tires.
I have a '12 GLK350 4matic with an AMG package, thus 20" rims.
The recommended size is: 235/45 R20
However, there isn't much of a selection when it comes to that combination. Is it possible to go to a 245 width?
If so, what are the downsides?

Among other downsides, it causes a medical condition where the user loses the ability to use the search function in internet forums.
Oh wait, you've already got this affliction.

Will your remedy find me more than the 5 references on the internet in relation to a GLK and going to 245? You'd be the internet God in my book, if it did. Are you up to the task?

Notice the differences, particularly speedo being off as well as revs per mile (affecting odo long-term). There *may* be rubbing of the sidewalls at extreme left/right, not sure.

It's all about rolling diameter if you want to keep the speedo accurate or at least not far off. I went staggered, so I'm definitely the exception, but it can be done. I'm running 255/40/20 on the front on 20x8.5 ET35 & 295/35/20 on 20x10.5 ET45 in the rear. Offset in the rear would have been a better fit if they were ET48/49. I did end up having to roll the rear fenders in the end, rubbed on occasion, now no rubbing at all. Fronts have lots of clearance, and if you went 255 square setup will have loads of room! I've also put coil overs on it and lowered it.
I used the Brabus guide/offerings to figure out that staggered was possible and what the largest size would be in the front/rear.
Cheers,
Tim

Thanks for the visuals, read a lot about the speedometer but didn't see a visual like that explaining it.

I just noticed you're parked beside the Cattle Castle at Lansdowne Park. What a beautiful restoration of a heritage building.
I ordered 255/45/20 Continental DWS 06 Plus today from Quattro Tire. I'm looking forward to a bit more rubber on the road and a little more sidewall to cushion the ride on our lovely Gatineau Hills highways.

We have a regular ol' 2014 GLK350 (not 4Matic) and had no problem finding tires for the 20" rims.
For our GLK, we also need 235 /45 R20 .... I checked the Discount Tire (in USA) website.
OE is the PIRELLI SCORPION ZERO ASIMMETRICO for $290 each (USD) and tread-wear rating of 420.
Website recommended is MICHELIN CROSSCLIMATE2 for $264 each with tread-wear rating of 640
We ended up buying the (recently released) PIRELLI SCORPION VERDE ALL SEASON PLUS II for $209 each tread-wear rating of 740
Discount Tire lists 16 different tires to choose from.

never had issue finding OEM size either for usually about 1k a set straight from tirerack. Got Michelin LTX to see if they will last longer.

I got my 255/45/20 tires mounted and they fit perfectly. Just enough clearance to the front struts. I love the ride quality of the Continental DWS 06 Plus.

Almost finished with our second set of the Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season. This is likely not the II series but the sets have been very good. Quiet & even treadwear on both sets.

Quiet is good but even tread wear is indicative of properly aligned suspension geometry and appropriate air pressure - not good or bad tires.

True, but more important are the ratings for the new Series II Pirelli. Looking at the numbers I see not only the improvement in the treadwear rating but also a big improvement in the wet ratings. The Yokohama tire which is fairly new is another possibility but what I see as to the ratings for Series II Pirelli makes me think that is the way I will go when the time arrives. Price makes me cringe however.
