Sell or keep our 2012 GLK 350?

Hi. Need some advice from you good people.
We have a 2012 GLK 350 which we bought in December 2011.
It has low mileage, only about 28,000 miles now.
A few years ago we paid for an extended warranty and maintenance package but it will expire soon.
Do you think it's time to sell this and get a new car?
We really do not want to spend extra money, as times are tough.
But we also do not want to get caught with big expenses in the coming years.
We might sell this in another 2 or 3 years but don't want to right now.
Your advice appreciated.

Man, 28000 miles is like nothin. I will drive till at least 100, 000 miles before i will consider selling it. To be honest, for 2012 vehicle even with that low miles, u probably won't get much from it.

Our 2011 has over 80k miles, has been very reliable. My advice would be to keep it and find a good independent shop to maintain it for you.

However, ours is a RWD model, understand that the transfer case can be problematic on the AWD versions.

You should be changing the oil every year, don’t go by mileage

Think about keeping it unless you feel the car is a lemon. What would happen if you did sell it, and are stuck with another car or truck that really soaks you financially repair wise? I like my GLK a lot, finding out more about it every day. Just put a new trans mount in mine today, and had a good chance to really check things out.

I think that you can provide a large part of the answer yourself. Has the car been reliable so far or have you had problems that may point to further issues later on? If the car has been relatively trouble-free your best course is probably to just keep driving.

As Travelness mentioned, you never know what you'll encounter with another vehicle. Many years ago my wife bought a new Acura and, based on reputation, we were expecting terrific reliability. The car needed a new CV joint after 500 mi and killed a battery and/or alternator every couple of years. On the other hand, her 2015 GLK has been completely trouble-free.

Thanks. We are not so worried about the trade in value, but concerned there will be expensive repairs in the next two years. The MB dealership keeps trying to scare us into trading it in for a new car, as you can imagine.

Yes we have a RWD model as well.

We've been maintaining it with the MB dealership. Any advice on what to look for regarding an independent shop?

We are not car gurus or anything although I know how to drive a stick shift (well, when I was much younger LOL). So I'm not really sure what to be aware of in terms of potential upcoming repairs.

The car has been "OK" so far, but I am not 100% sure. They did say the engine mounts broke and that had to be fixed. From the repair invoice: "ALL MOTOR MOUNT COLLAPSED." Then they were reinstalled and checked OK.

This motor mounts thing was a few months ago, JUNE 2019.

The only other weird thing we noticed is that there is sometimes a heavy sounding "BUMP" sound from somewhere, when we reverse the car about 20 feet. But the technicians say they can't find anything wrong with the car regarding that.

This is like me knowing nothing about computers and asking for advice LOL. I can give computer advice but not car advice.

One option, is you could trade for a very low mileage 2016 Honda CR-V for little to no money (nearly an even trade). This would give you a highly reliable vehicle with less likelihood of expensive repairs.

Using a rough trade in estimate for the GLK of around $15k, there are many, mostly Japanese, cars that are reliable and can be had for little or no money in trade.
