2014 GLK LED light upgrade

Hi all, I am thinking of asking local MB shop to install LasFit LED on my 2014 GLK350. Front halogen headlight seems to be getting dimmer. I have the OEM bulb but still not bright enough as before for some reason. Headlight housing is in good shape, not cloudy. Anyone has any suggestions on if this will cause issues or things shop need to do to avoid issues/system errors? Will this void my extended warranty? I still have 40k+ miles and 2 more years of extended warranty.

Also, is LasFit good LED that will last long, hopefully at least a year or more? Thank you!

Yikes:
All light producing technologies degrade/dim over time. If you have not done so, you could try replacing the halogens with new OEM bulbs. Just because a bulb/LED has not burned out does not mean it still has "like new" light output. Lower voltage getting to a halogen bulb will also reduce brightness. A 1.0 volt drop will cause a noticeable reduction in brightness. Voltage reduction could be caused by, among other things, a bad connection (corrosion etc.) at the bulb connector, deteriorated contacts inside the headlight relay(s) etc.

LEDs installed in a reflector housing not designed for LEDs are often a questionable compromise.

I tried LED bulbs in the halogen housings of my other vehicle and was disappointing. Yes they did seem a bit brighter but contrary to what a lot of people say the white/blue color seemed to make it harder to see - at least to me. And I'm fairly sure it was blinding oncoming drivers. I went back to some premium halogen bulbs and am satisfied with them.

OEM OSRAM halogen bulbs are made for long life and their brightness will degrade over time. You can find brighter bulbs but the trade off is life span - they burn brighter and a bit hotter and will fail sooner. However, you can still get a year or two out of the brighter bulbs so if you don't mind having to change them again they are still worth it.

Google around a bit and look at the reviews of the various H7 bulbs and find the lifespan/brightness balance that suits you. I went with Phillips bulbs and they are a bit brighter than stock. I have some GE bulbs to try when the Philips bulbs eventually fail or dim.

Good luck.

You're better off with an HID conversion than LEDs for forward projecting lighting. Whichever option you go with, you need to make sure it's canbus enabled or you'll trigger error codes. Let us know if we can help you out with HIDs.

If you want a real increase in brightness by 2.5x put in Hid, that’s what I did and cant believe the crap lights my 2013 came with.

Hey Mmr1,

You're right! HID are much brighter and perform better. I installed the after market bi-xenons (mine came with OEM halogens -- they suck) and the difference is HUGE. I also added 45w/each LED for the high beams H7's. My HID's are 35w D2H bulbs. At night... I make the highway lights look so dim. The projection is super wide too!

I have the regular fixture , not the round housing , I had to aim mine all the way down to not blind oncoming traffic, but they work even better that way. Try aiming yours lower, and walk out and test if they blind. Yes hid are great
