GLK 250, 120,000 Mile Maintenance. Did I get taken for a ride?

Morning all,
Own and drive a 2014 GLK250 which has been generally reliable and that I am very happy with. Went in for Service this morning near Pompano and was quoted $2,060 for Service B at 120,000 miles. This seemed higher than usual (approx 1,200 for previous service B), but the service advisor indicated that this included replacement of the diesel particulate filter. I referenced the maintenance manuals online and am not seeing this as a required replacement. Am I being taken for a fool?

Definitely not a scheduled item in the maintenance book. I’m curious how they’d be doing it, maybe get a procedure description?

The rest of the list is a lot of checks, along with oil change, air & oil & fuel & cabin filters, lubing the pano roof, etc. in other words, things you could do yourself and save hundreds.

Our Moose is closing in on 120k too, no major issues to report. These trucks love the open road and being pushed. They don’t like being babied and doing short trips.

Let us know what else is on that list to make it 2 grand.

Early on, and with prior M-B vehicles I discussed this very problem with the service departments. On either A or B service you are charged for a multiplicity of checks. Check hinges, check this, check that, most of which you'd know in your regular use if there were any problem and which have little or nothing to do with warranty. You don't need a certified M-B mechanic to check those. Since that time I've ordered my services "a la carte", specifying exactly what I want and limiting that to important mechanical items dealing with engine and brakes. Maximum I've ever paid is around $6-700. for the important A and B items. Skip the "particulate" filter and ask the price then. That's just the fuel filter which occasionally does have to be changed, but it is simple and certainly doesn't involve thousands of dollars.

MB’s of all kinds.
Well it depends. Give us a copy of the service bill from the service writer.

All,

Thanks to yalls advice I made a big fuss and they dropped the price to $1000. That seems more in line. Appreciate everyone's help.

Says a lot that they could drop the price by 50% just like that. I would find another dealer going forward.

If you go to a dealership, that's a given to be taken for a ride and treated like a fool. Proper term is stealership.
