2013 GLK 350

Hi everyone! I'm looking for some advice on a used 2013 GLK. It has 36K miles and according to the CARFAX, it has a new automatic transmission. I'm no stranger to the quirks of MB, I currently drive a 1999 SLK 230 as a daily driver. My car is having some electrical issues and I'm thinking of replacing it with the GLK. I must admit I'm second guessing buying another MB, but I do enjoy the ride.

Any advice or things to look for?

A gaggle of MB's
Sure... like why a "36K mile" 2013 GLK has a "new transmission" to start - and who did that job... if it wasn't a local MB dealer install.. then RUN, not walk away..

36k miles is way too soon to need a transmission. Hard pass.

According to the CARFAX, the transmission was replaced by a Mercedes dealership as was all of the scheduled maintenance. The transmission was replaced while it was under warranty. I know sometimes the dealership will replace the whole transmission because it's easier than replacing other parts if the fault lies somewhere in the transmission. I'm not sure if I should look at this as a red flag or not. The car is currently listed where I bought two previous MB-I trust the dealership and they have a good reputation. But I know there is some risk buying a used MB.

I'm just trying to flush out any known problems with the GLK. I know how that MB can be a money pit. I'm trying to avoid that.

There are known failures on transmissions that tend to happen early. Does the new transmission have 5 year warranty, if so I'd roll the dice?
But I'm not fan of new DFI engines. I would rather look for well taken care '10-'12 pre-face lift GLK with more miles (60-80k).

Side note...there was somebody here who had transmission replaced 2-3 times...that seems like a car issue and not transmission issue. Who knows.

Well based on my experience I tend to think the opposite. I would look for 13+ M276 engines. Yes, they are a noisy DI engine, but they are an improvement over the M272 V6. 1) M276 is a 60deg design so no Balance Shafts needed (M272 is 90deg a thus requires balance shaft). 2) No movable Intake Flaps to deal with. 3) Mo Powaaa! My 276 has 328k miles and has Never had anything other than oil changes/filters. Ran a bore scope inside the cylinders and there is little to no carbon buildup in there at all!

Yea M276 are not bad, but M272 are so easy to work on. Balance shaft was issue on older M272, I am not sure W212 has balance shaft anymore.
Yes, intake is probably the last weak spot, but it's one time job.
Carbon build up on M276 is on the intake valves, just look at them when you do your spark plugs, which is a pita on M276.
But hey, your mileage is impressive, although highway miles are easy on the engine.
M276 just has more complexities for extra 20hp and 1-2mpg

Well like I said I got eyes-on my valves (looked at 4 of the cylinders) and no buildup to speak of and no record in the VMI that it has been walnut blasted however it could have been.

Do you consider DI as an over complication? Yes it is I guess, however it’s obviously reliable and a Bosch hi-pressure fuel pump is only a $380 part so not the end of the world.

Both the M272 and the M276 are all aluminum, 4 valve, OHC, Variable valve timing, timing chains; what am I missing?

Oh yes the M276 does have *** (auto stop start) but guess what, this means it has an extremely robust oversized starter. But yes, that aspect is more complicated then the 272 I concede.

What other specific over-complications does the 276 have over the 272?
